Congrats on the new house. If you need any painting practice, since you're in CT so often, I've got an empty unit you can practice on!

So I had a 1/2 day yesterday at work, and it was finally warm out so I thought I would pop my wheels off and do my brakes...

And then i ran into the caliper pin from hell...What's the move here?
I hit it with pb blaster and tried to hammer it out and the thing isn't moving. I bent the rod I was using to force it out..I pre-bought a set of pins but need to get these out. Do you just dremmel them and cut them in the middle and then push them out from the inside? You can see the end of it is deforming from me hitting it.

BTW how much time left on these brakes? I am driving on eggshells with them, downshifting every chance I can and not using the brakes whenever possible..There are at least 100K on these brakes...maybe more. I have had them since 2012 and 65K and I think they may be originals with 132K on the truck.

I have new pads and rotors and am so pissed I missed the warm window yesterday.

Also I am wondering if the uneven wear on the pads is due to a sticking caliper. You can see the inside is extended further than the outside...I am wondering if the outside is stuck.

I did a build sheet online and a 4door Rubi is over 52k with all my bells and whistles. I also did a 2 door equipped the same at about 46k. Both are sticker price with room to drop. There was about a 3k increase to the new model

We've got a work pot luck thing today. Made~5# of pulled pork last night cause who doesn't love pulled pork. Then this morning realized that like 1/2 the office
Honestly if you bent the pin and it won't move you can do 2 things.:

Try to Dremel it off then whack the seized piece out of the caliper with a punch.
2: just got to vatozone and get a set of remans and slap them on there. I'd be willing to bet your piston boots are probably junk too.

I may have a caliper for sale. Still in process of removing the blue paint from it but it is new. I need a smaller wire brush to finish removing the paint.

I had that same issue on my first gen. Since I had replacement pins as well I ended up drilling out the pin carefully as to not enlarge the hole in the caliper and used a wire brush to clean it up a little bit. Was pretty easy... just annoying...

Those can be a pain in the ass right @ERMB ? Lol. We did Scott's a few months ago and it was just about the same as yours. We kept working on it and eventually they came out. I'd tell you to keep shooting with PB for a few days and try again, you should also try hitting it on the head moving the pin inwards more as well. Once it starts keep going in and out to knock the rust off the pin. Any movement of the pin at all will help you get it out.
Good advice. If it came to it I would add that since Richards pin is deforming maybe cut the pin at the caliber with a dremel and then if needed drill it out from there

Now that you mention it... I think I had to do that as well since one of my pins started to deform as I was hammering it out... just drilled the others.

That is exactly what I did. I center punched the pin and then drilled it out. Worked beauty.

Funny you say that... my GMC is less than 4000 miles and I noticed a big rusty spot on the frame already where the cross brace mates with the main beam. Unfuckingreal- why the hell can't they hot dip galvanize these fucking frames? It's pure insanity. I have a boat trailer that goes in salt water all the time, it's almost 30 years old and is hot dip galvanized and still looks like the day it was made. This isn't rocket surgery or brain science. Please! Auto manus!! Please give me a hot dip galvanized frame! It wouldn't even cost that much more to do.

Because they need to continue to sell product. Make it self distruct over time, and people will have to have repairs or buy new.

Thanks for responding, I needed the night to cool out so I'm not as pissed off.

I was actually trying to accomplish two things by bringing my truck to a dealer to fix the latch, it was more of a test to see if they would pull the kind of shit that they pulled. Long story short, I've had the truck for about 3 weeks and I live in an apartment with only street parking and no access to a driveway. Since I can't do any work on the vehicle where I live I was hoping to find a reputable dealer that I could go to in a pinch and would also be able to help with any recalls and such. I was still planning on finding a good local service person/shop but testing a dealer's service department was my first step.

The latch is a pop&lock but I thought it was factory before going for service. The latch worked fine before I bought the truck and for a few days after buying it, it feels like maybe one of the latch bars fell off or the latch handle is not activating the two latches maybe some stretch or play in it, the area around the latch handle is clean and no rust at all on the sides of the tailgate.

So this is what happened... I make an appointment 2 days prior, I show up 10 minutes early, I'm told it will take a couple of hours to look at. 2 and half hours later and they hit me with a "it could be a pretty major fix between $600-700 but we'd have to order the parts." All they did was spray some wd40 in the latch handle and on the sides of the tailgate, I could see all the excess all over the tailgate and bumper.

End result is that the "quote" they gave me was a big "Please don't come back" sign just in a shitty backhanded way.

    Sorry for the book!

TLDR: I have a new used truck and just want to have a good mechanic that I can trust. I have no problem paying good money for good service as long as I don't feel like I'm getting ripped off.

Hadn't seen that front bumper before and you can't tell from the from the pic. I think you are in need of some 37's :D
