You keep trying to argue, not me. And telling ppl to be 'prepared' to argue like you are pretty much shows you're just being an asshole every time you post on here...

The Majority of the time they simply check it with Techstream, all that does is tell them if it is really low.

Not arguing just stating facts. If you don't like what I post or disagree with what I say then come to the table with better counterpoints instead of just getting angry and calling me names.

You can always put me on your ignore list if you feel my posts push your buttons so much, I don't care.

If I were truly an asshole, I would have told you to shut up and go back to finger painting with your own shit or just post a clever meme saying such. I don't feel like saying that right now so carry on with your memes and your point.

If you told them you wanted it checked the manual method, not tech stream and offered to pay the labor if the level was correct you probably would have been satisfied by the first dealership.

If they balk at that then you look for a dealer familiar with the process and go there.

Either way it sounds like your issue has been corrected by the last trip to the independent shop.

I work in the busiest and highest rated Toyota dealer in the northeast region of the United States and I’ve grown to despise the word stealership. One bad apple really does spoil the whole bunch. The reason WHY my dealership is rated so highly and holds such a strong reputation is very simple... we do the right thing every time. There are no secrets in the automotive service industry and if you follow this one simple rule people will come back again and again. The large majority of dealerships abide by this rule and I hate to see some of them have such bad rapport.

You are right on...The funny thing is when I first got the truck in December of 2015...I had done a bunch of reading and asked a lot of questions of the two dealers I had done business with in the past...they fought me all the way, saying "the factory would never make that type of mistake"...even after a bunch of documentation from a number of sights about the Mexican Plant not taking into account for the +/- 1 quart short in the trucks with the Transmission Cooler...I was told that Tacoma World was filled with a bunch of trolls (Even if we are... :)) just trying to destroy Toyota's reputation...It turns out the truth is we are trolls and Toyota was doing a great job destroying their own Rep by making shitty product (Ok, OK all you die hart people...I love all the Toyotas I have/had - Total 3 now and about 13 over the last 40 years)...I have found a guy that is honest and knows his shit...He is Dulles Auto Clinic in Sterling, VA just off of Old Ox Road, for those that are in or near the Northern VA area...By the way...I have now driven over 275 miles, the truck works flawlessly, makes no unusual sounds, shift firm and properly...I am convinced it was the fluid level...

There is a process to check the auto tranny fluid in a 3rd gen, it's certainly not as easy as pulling a dipstick, but it worked for me. Mine was about 3/4 a quart low.

There are plenty of guys who filled their trannys themselves at home in their driveways and their trucks still shift like turds.

Are you sure this isnt a placebo effect?

For me I am absolutely sure...I am not easily impressed when it comes to mechanical fixes...I have for years purchased and sold military trucks (40 - 5 ton trucks and 15 - 2.5 ton) just by watching 5 to 10 minute operational videos, listening to the vehicles run (engines, transmission, transfer cases, auto-air inflation systems, axels run and mechanical devices), watch them drive at various speeds and hear transmissions shift...an have nailed all the mechanical problems every time..

Is this done cold? I was thinking of taking the computer reprogram TSB I found here to my local dealer. The only issue I've experienced is delayed shifting from P to D and D to R.

Love this site...first time Tacoma owner.

FFS, I wonder if this is my issue. Dealer JUST told me that I need a new transmission. 2016 TRDOR. I've asked Toyota dealer repeatedly if they'll check the transmission fluid and they tell me they cannot. Then my check engine and "trac off" lights turn on and the damned thing won't shift properly. Roughly 65k miles....

Yes the level is checked at a very specific temp.....You put the truck into "Tranny Temp" mode, and check ONLY when it says the fluid is ready to be checked. It's all in Gearcruncher's thread..... It's a process, for sure, but it can be done at home if you a bit "mechanically" inclined...

Yikes. Are you still under warranty? If they’ve refused to check it, and now it’s fried and has to be replaced, you might have a big issue to take up with corporate.
