TOD's mods and product review

Well, here it is...my first accessory mod. I found some inexpensive seat covers at Target and after a month or so of deliberation I finally broke down and bought them:



It looks like this fully installed:





The material reminds me of neoprene and has thickness to it. Also it has a smooth texture and makes it easier to slide into and out of the driver's seat.

Overall the color scheme is nice and the material provides just a little more cushion.

Seat covers were tightly folded in the package and the seat covers were somewhat wrinkled, but I expect the wrinkles/creases to "iron out" once ambient humidity and heat set in.

These covers are made by Winplus out of Ontario Canadia.

 

Did they have one that could work on the rear in a DC? I really want clazzio's but more than anything I want them because I have a toddler. These would be a much better alternative since it's mainly to protect than looks.

 

No as far as I know they don't. This product is made by a company called Winplus. I haven't googled it on the internet yet but they're sold at Target.

Looks like they make them for many seat configurations including cab seats perhaps.

 

This what I'm interested in, paying a couple hundred dollars just to protect your seats seems crazy.

 

I like these covers because they look good, give a bit more padding, protect the OEM fabric, and I get in and out of the driver seat better.

I didn't think I would really like these things but rather just put up with them. It turns out that I really like them. I didn't expect for them to make it easier to do the knee limbo under the steering wheel everytime I get in and out of the cab...this was a totally unexpected bonus.

 

Just added these AVS window vent guard things today:



I ordered them off Amazon. They are the "AVS original" which I guess means the non-channel outside mount. The installation was easy and straightforward.

I'm glad to have finally found these and glad to have them installed. Perhaps the in-channel version looks a little better in terms of fit and finish but I feel that these outside mounted ones cover the top of the window more completely and possibly provides more function over form.

I've probably over thought this whole matter. Feel free to tell me your thoughts and/or opinions. There might be a possibility that I installed these wrong so don't be afraid to let me know that either.

 

Soooo I was in Home Despot the other day in search of raw materials to make my own grit guard and to find a second bucket so that I can have a "two bucket" car wash. I was really looking forward to making my own contraptions.

Then I came across this bucket:






The O Cedar Qwick Wring bucket. After all "O Cedar makes your life easier" or so the jingle goes from their commercials from 30 years ago.

After about an hour of searching for stuff to make a grit guard with, I decided that I would give this bucket a try as a rinse bucket. It was under $9 and I like the smallish 2.5 gallon size.

I got home and I put the bucket to use. This would be the first time for me to personally test out the two bucket car wash concept.

What I noticed is the gray "wringer" works really well and it did not snag or cause unnecessary friction on my wash mit. Half way through the wash I noticed that my soap bucket still looked blue (due to my blue Turtle Wax soap for which I somehow have a lifetime supply of), while the rinse bucket was grey colored.

After I completed the car wash I slowly drained each bucket. My soap bucket had no grit, just blue soapy water. The rinse bucket had grit particles and the water was grey colored.

I have to say that the two bucket method really works well, and this O Cedar bucket functions very well as a rinse bucket. And for under $9!

My only criticism is that I wish the wringer was a bit further down in the bucket. But then again it was simple to go directly to the wringer to wring out soap and grit, then rehydrate with surface rinse water, and then wring again before going to the soap bucket.

 

Do you ever find yourself going to Autozone for something and then see some of their stuff and wonder if it's really all that great? Or better yet "should I just get this stuff off Amazon?" Yea me too.

I picked up this detailing cloth on my last trip:



To tell you the truth, I ordered a pack of three Chincilla detailing cloth's off of Amazon but have to wait an eternity for my order to be shipped...because "yes I'm NOT spending $100 for Amazon Prime!"

So for about $7 I figured I'd give this cloth a try. Plus it was the last nice day of the season where I live and I wanted to give my truck one last driveway wash. Carpe diem!

This cloth seems to be one piece and not two towels sewn together. The fiber pile seems plush and rather thick. It does have a boarder edge, so it's not edgeless per se. But the edges are not obvious but are thin and seems similar to the same material the fibers are made of with similar "softness".

The fiber content is 80% polyester and 20% polyamide.

Towel measures 16"x24".

I bought this to use as a dedicated spray wax cloth to help get me get by between paste wax applications.

This towel performed well in my opinion. It did not shed fibers everywhere. I do recommend shaking it out before first use though. Just snap it in the air a few times and you're good to go. It also spread the liquid wax around evenly.

I will say find someone to split Amazon prime with and I can almost guarantee you'll use the cost of prime in the free two day shipping. Some items are even 1 or same day depending on your location.

No limit (at least that I've reached) in how many delivery addresses you can have.

I split mine with my sister so $50 a year and at roughly $7 shipping average (that's not even two day) I save that money in about 7 orders

 

In case you were wondering what liquid wax I was using with the detailing cloth I reviewed above, it was this:



Lucas Slick Mist Speed Wax. It is indeed slick and the spray bottle definantly creates a mist.

I found this product easy to apply and spread around. It goes on easy and spreads easy. I sprayed it pretty liberally. Beware, it smells like a bubble gum factory in a bottle.

It gave a mirror like shine on my inferno colored beast. I used McQuires paste wax about 2 months ago, so I don't know if that makes a difference. This product did make the color pop and gave a nice glossy sheen in a way I didn't notice when I used the paste wax.

I bought this product at Wal Mart. It was less expensive than competing brands and you get more fluid ounces for your money than the other brands I found at Wal Mart.

My brother-in-law highly recommended Mother's spray wax, but since I couldn't find it at this particular Wal Mart, I decided to give Lucas a try. I would buy this product again.

 

Good shit Tod. I was looking for some nice water resistant seat covers. Of course I really want clazzio but that 500 is better spent towards principal.

 

I'm also considering this over the in channel. How's the wind noise . Is there any significant increase ? How significant . Thank you. Btw thanks for the reviews.

 

That's where I'm at as well. When my ride is paid I'll probably do more significant changes.

I really like these car seats though.

 

I don't notice any wind noise. My wife doesn't either...she would gripe about it for sure if there was.

I got them off of Amazon for half of what Autozone was selling them for. Very easy to install.

When it rains it seems to channel the water around the entire window really well.

Just got my Chinchilla detail towels in the mail from Carma Hill via Amazon. I got the three pack ($12.50 + $4.49 S&H = $16.99) Will post pics later.

Initial impressions: these towels are significantly smaller than the detail towel I got from Autozone. Nowhere on the product does it say "Chincilla", rather it seems that Carma Hill attached their own brand tag. Fiber content states "polyester/polyamide" without noting the percentage of each fiber type. Maybe it's a proprietary blend?

I REALLY HOPE THESE ARE THE REAL AND GENUINE CHINCHILLA TOWELS THAT I KEEP HEARING ABOUT.

Towels are soft and light weight.

Carma Hill was very quick on their delivery. I'm not a Prime member but they had it in my mailbox by Dec 22 yet the estimated date was Dec 26 at the earliest. So kudos to Carma Hill. Service like this makes this customer happy.

I plan on putting these towels through the test at a later date.
