Just completed my install of this with the Maestro RR. Already had a JL mono amp/sub, a kicker 2channel for the fronts. Hooked it all up and MAN IT SOUNDS AWESOME. What a difference the headunit makes from stock.

Anyway, this pioneer deck I got on a black friday sale for $275, list price was $400 so figured I'd give it a shot because I really wanted Carplay. Used it in a buddies car and fell in love. Carplay works well, what doesn't work AT ALL is the pioneer appradio app. What a piece of garbage that is. The only way to run waze is through appradio and when you do all you get is a blank screen. I didn't realize that a lot of the apps aren't supported by carplay, but have to run through the pioneer appradio garbage. Almost none of them that say they are compatible work.

Little disappointed in that, just wanted to throw this out there for anyone considering pioneer. I've always love their stuff but the appradio needs a lot of work. I think a lot of it stems from iOS 11 so hopefully updates are on the horizon.

I just bought a pioneer AVH – 1330NEX for my 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
I have read that the issue you have is because the app radio does not support iOS 11 yet.
And I just saw that you mention that in the last sentence.
Who knows when a firmware update will correct that....glad I haven't updated my phone yet.
I got mine a couple of days ago online for $275 as well. Got the wiring adapter and dash kit through Crutchfield. Try to get them to price match the radio but they couldn't.

Last month google made the change to make waze not work with iPhones and the radios. Android wants it to be a benefit for them. That was a great feature that you actually could use waze on the new nex radios and have an iPhone. As for in the future..... my sources say it won’t happen and not coming back. I’m in the industry and my sources are generally right on but that being said, it’s not their decisions so anything can change.

By the way there is a work around if you “need” waze

I used the maestro iDatalink RR to retain everything except factory mic. You have to cut into the truck harness for the backup camera to work but it's just 4 wires. I forget the exact colors but there are several threads on here about it.

I have the scoshe black kit and despite the very popular opinion of this kit on this forum mine does not fit well. There is a gap at the top. No one notices it but me but it's still not a perfect fit.

Well that kinda sucks. I dont NEED waze but this drastically limits the functionality of carplay. I can't even read texts. Whats the work around like? I know I know, I'll search.

How does it “drastically” limit CarPlay? It’s a google app. We were just spoiled by being able to use it.

Because that stereo ( and most ) don’t have an hdmi you will need a kenwood cac3av cable ( MUST be this 1 because it’s pinned correctly ), an isimple media linx, hdmi cable, your usb to lightning cable ( iPhone cable ) and an apple lightning to digital av adaptor.
Yes it seems like a lot BUT this gives you waze and the ability to mirror your phone 100%. You now can watch ANY app you have ( Hulu YouTube etc.) only thing is you don’t get control on the stereo example ( can’t type from stereo directions using waze you use the phone )

Also, as for reading text just using CarPlay... not happening.... audible only. Doing the mirror solution then yes but damn that’s a lot to see a text.
