Installed my new softopper on my 2nd gen on Monday night and had some issue with the bed rails. Instructions said to set the rails 1/2" from the inside of the bed, but at that distance the rails were not sitting on a flat surface. When I tightened the clamps the rails rolled inward to the bed and did not sit level. So I pushed the rails out and set them at 3/4 to 1" and everything sat much better when clamped down. Will this effect how the canvas lays? It may just be an optical dillusion but it's weird to me that the rails do line up square on the bed. Also I noticed there is a pretty decent bow in the rails at the hinge point. The rails are not bent since when I unclamp them they straighten right out. Is this how everyone's looks? I sent an email to Softopper but have not heard back yet. IMG_0615.jpgIMG_0616.jpg

Don't have one, so no real clue. But you're right it looks "wonky"; Maybe they sent you the wrong model topper? Especially as 1/2" is a Heck of a lot different than 3/4-1". Good Luck on this. It's nice looking unit from your first picture.

Ive had the topper on a week and it seems that everything is ok. The bedrails have not moved and the bend has not gotten worse. It still looks weird to me, especially with the difference in margain between the front and back of the bed and the bend in rails. The only thing I am concerned about is what will happen in one year or five years.

I emailed Softopper three times last week and never got a response back. I have to call them but always forget during the day.

anyone else have a topper that can confirm it looks correct on my truck?

You may have figured this out by now but thought I’d chime in.

I don’t have experience with the Softopper specifically but the top of the side of the bed (that the rail is sitting on) is not square on the outside edge, only on the inside edge.

My tonneau looks the same from the outside, the end by the cab has more of the plastic it is sitting on showing then the end down by the tailgate. On the gen 2 there is a 2” taper at the rear which is why your seeing about an inch off in your measurements.

The Softopper on my second gen fits exactly the same. Small bow in the center like yours. I've tried to keep the rails straight, but once the top is up and strapped tight, the rails bow. Doesn't really bother me anymore.
