A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
Today I got my Entune base radio swapped out for a Entune premium with a "almost" perfect swap.
Two problems 1. I-phone pairing issues --this I think I will get resolved., its me (I am cell phone DUMB) and
    2. The radio seems to not find the XM antenna? I know the antenna is good as I used it on the trial period with the base radio in the same truck. The unit says "check Antenna".
I hooked up all the connectors the exact same way they were on the base, and all else works like it should.
I have not gone back in and checked the connections, and I will do that tomorrow in the daylight. I did double check them all before screwing it down.
Was there something to be switched between the 2 head units? Any ideas/guesses are more than welcome.
Oh and BTW --I like the Entune system -- the safety lockouts are just for the drivers and others good.
WE have learned to adjust these "quirks as we have driven a Subaru Outback for the last 3 yrs.
Subaru and Toyota are joined "at the hip" as Toyota owns 16% of Subaru, and there are many similar parts -including Entune (a Panasonic product)
    Help if you can!
    Thanks

Hey all you "entune" experts (and "non -haters) --let that other entune Hater "hate" his (entune), he is hopeless anyway. Help out a entune fan with his (me/my) question.
    Thanks,

BTW I don't think I have ever used that many hate words ever!

Did your new radio have the XM unit or did you swap it over from the old one? If the new radio had one maybe try swiping with the other? I happened across this site a few days ago, they sell upgrades from one OEM system to another, maybe they could give you some info. https://www.infotainment.com

Both units have XM capabilities (my old and my replacement) and they were both used in their XM Trial /free period. I spoke to the seller of my new one today, and he said there was nothing removed from his truck except the USB plug assy., and his replacement unit had a custom one of these expressly for his new aftermarket head unit.
Is the XM module separate from the main unit?

Yes. It bolts under the main unit on the same brackets. You should have several plugs that go between the 2 units.

OK -- I got both units with the lower unit attached. I did NOT switch the cables the cables that were on each unit stayed where they were. Do you think the cables are "model specific"? The donor truck was not a SR5 - I am fairly sure it was in a Off road

I will double check tomorrow morning -- I am wondering if I left that single cable off of the bottom unit? This is possible in my anticipation of success!
That cable looks like a antenna cable?

According to a labeled picture someone on this forum posted, the far left socket on the XM unit is for the XM antenna. The picture, which I saved, is a 2014, but the layout seems to be the same as the picture posted above.

I would not think the cables would be different. Hopefully you just missed that one plug. It’s easy to do with all those connectors.

Entune Audio and Entune Audio Plus look like this:
    radio.png

    Entune Premium looks like this:
    2016-toyota-tacoma-entune-audio.jpg

From my understanding both the Audio Plus and Premium could have JBL, but the JBL versions are different. So if you wanted to add JBL you would have to Replace the head unit, dash tweeters, door speakers and then add the amp, subwoofer and wiring. Infotainment.com (https://www.infotainment.com/collec...ta-tacoma-entune-premium-gps-navigation-radio) will sell you the JBL radio and amp but that looks like it's about $1900 and you would still need the JBL speakers, not sure if there upgrade even works with the JBL subwoofer. If you don't have JBL and want to keep your factory Entune head unit and get better sound you would be better off getting the OEMAudioPlus system(http://oemaudioplus.com/toyota/tcd1600/).

After all of our kids and grandkids left today, I got both of my problems solved. The XM antenna was not plugged in or it fell out after I did not get it fully inserted -and locked in. That was the Xm issue.
The cell phone contacts not downloading to the radio was a "sync-all" setting in my phone being turned off.
    SUCCESS!!! all is well
One more piece remains -- ordering or getting from somewhere a new "center dash panel" Anyone have a spare laying around?

There is actually 2 models beside the 2 you picture. There is one that looks like the base u show except it has a apps button ( I think that adds the XM and the "Scout navigation) . The other radio looks like the JBL version --but does not have the "JBL" logo on the front of it; this is the one I installed and got from a great member here on this website. This radio was standard on his 3rd gen Off Road.

That's the Entune Audio Plus model. Had that in my 16 SR5.

Yes, that's what mine has also. Entune Premium without JBL. Looks the same just without the JBL logo.

The sound really improved in my truck with my "upgrade" and it was a simple swap except for the "stupid installer" (me)-- who did not get the XM antenna securely attached.

XM is working after that "dumb installer" (me) got the antenna hooked all the way in the plug.
That connection is the smallest plug on the bottom of the Radio/XM assy. --it is easy to screw that one up

Did you have the Standard SR5 radio with the "scout nav" and Sirius/XM capability? If so everything should work.
Mine worked fine after I rechecked every connection and found my antenna disconnected on the lower part of the unit also -except for Pandora thru Entune as of the last 3 weeks or so. There should be two parts to the head unit.
you can see the two separate sections in this ebay item.
Surely your replacement had both sections!?
