That's a tough call. Personally I would claim it, but my truck is my baby. If you are looking to replace the bumper with an off-road variant it will give you a down payment, but is on't pay for the entire thing. That's what i was hoping would be the silver lining to the guy rear ending my baby, but it wasn't enough to fit into my budget so it will have to wait.

Bumpers sell used for about $200. Ask for that and put it towards a plate steel bumper. If they can't afford it then just move along or file a claim. Had an old guy hit my wife's Lexus years ago. He wanted to pay out of pocket to the tune of about 6 grand as he didn't want to get his insurance involved. We utilized the insurance in that case.

If the truck were less than about 2-3 years old I'd probably get it fixed. On a 5+ year old truck I'd let it ride.

It all depends on what kind of shape the rest of the truck is in. Good all the way around then claim. If it is beat in a little then I would let it go.

Thanks for the feedback people. After careful consideration, I have decided both a and b. I did report to the insurance, they did an inspection, and will cut me a check for almost $800 to fix at the place of my choice. But I doubt I'll fix it. I have the white paint pen. I'll live with it.
