My in-service date was 10/26/06, so I have until 10/26/18 to have it inspected, I may wait till next year when I need my inspection sticker. I have been using Fluid Film in that area heavily, but I know my Fluid Film gun was blasting rust out between the layers, so the gap between the layers has only gotten larger from when those pictures were taken 3 years ago. Wish I knew about Fluid Film when I first purchased my Tacoma because my frame would have very little corrosion if I did.

It's great that you got a frame replacement, after failing for the frame rail. A neighbor next to me owns a 2004 and a 2005 Tacoma and both have frame replacements. I don't know of any other car company that would replace a frame on 15-year old vehicles @ $16,000 each, but hope they solve this long history of frame corrosion.

While I'm grateful for my new frame, I don't give much credit to Toyota, I think they were pretty much forced to replace the frames on these trucks, I have a 1992 Chevy k1500 with no holes in the frame, lived in same environment.

You have to remember this is an LSC and not a recall, so Toyota wasn't forced to do anything and has there ever been a car company that would replace a frame on 15-year old vehicle @ $16,000 each?

My last truck was a 1988 Nissan 4x4 king cab, that lasted 18 years with me doing 1/2 as much work on keeping the frame salt/dirt free and agree 100% about Toyota not living up to their reputation on quality/reliability when it comes to their frames. How is this even happening after previous generations having the same problem, it boggles the mind they can't solve this obvious defect.

I believe there was/is a class action lawsuit that pretty much forced Toyota to extend their frame replacement campaign. I know it's not a recall, my first gen didn't qualify because it didn't have some bull shit crc spray.

It boggles my mind as well, how a company can produce crap frames for so many years. But now with my new frame on my 2nd gen I'm happy so all is well

You are correct about the class action lawsuit (I even talked to the lawyer in ARK that submitted it), my point was at least Toyota is stepping up to the plate and replacing them for free. The strange part that I have never been given a straight answer from Toyota is, why are people in Canada given a 15-year warranty after having the LSC performed, while Americans had to lawyer-up to get the extended 12-year warranty.

All I can say is that I wish Toyota would live up to their reputation for quality/reliability with their frame like they have for the engines they manufacture. If Nissan can manufacture a frame that lasts 18 years with little maintenance in the rust belt, Toyota should be able too.

This is my first post on this forum so I’ll say hello everyone!!! What a great resource. I have an 06 Tacoma ext cab 2wd purchased July of this year. I live in Cleveland and have an appointment this Friday to have the frame inspected. I’m curious based on these pics if anyone thinks I will be a candidate for a frame replacement or just that undercoating? Any help would be appreciated.5513B6A2-416B-4312-8192-FD47BDDA8D91.jpg62B72338-86E2-46C8-9DEB-36EC8A832407.jpg E4AF5EE4-B04A-4675-BA41-0A0074AD5679.jpg7B29EFF6-7673-4158-B984-E05EABB0B9F8.jpg

That 100% will be getting a new frame. If it doesn't, Toyota corporate should get a call from you and then your dealer would get a talking to, and you'd get a frame anyway. Enjoy your rental, I know I did.

I have the same year Tacoma, these photos are what nightmares are all about. How did this frame not get replaced before now, even a scarier thought .... drive carefully to the dealership to get your new frame.

I take it with that response that you also think it would get replaced? I just think that if they told me that it wasn’t getting a new frame and just receiving that undercoating they would only be covering up a bad frame. Like putting a band aid on a cut off leg.

Your frame is why Toyota is doing the LSC and they shouldn't even need to take photos to send to Toyota. Your frame has a 10mm hole on steroids.

Hey there... I bought a 2009 2 months back and naively forgot to check out the frame. Looked at it today and it looks a little rusty. Where might I find out if I am eligible to have the frame replaced? Can anyone advise me on how to start the whole process? It would be greatly appreciated!

Mike, you have 12 years from the in-service date to have the frame inspected

thanks Markcal, I appreciate the info. But what exactly is "the in-service date?" How is it determined?
    Thanks!

When the first person who drove it off the dealer lot would be the service date of first use, so the clock starts ticking to 12 years from then.

Just found part of the suit and this quote has me worried,

"You are part of the settlement if you are a person, entity or organization who, at any time as of or before December 2, 2016, own or owned, purchase(d), or lease(d) Subject Vehicles"

I bought my 2009 in October 2017. My reading of this lawsuit suggests to me that I'm not eliglible for the free replacement.

Is there anyone here that bought after Dec, 2016 that has successfully or unsuccessfully tried to get their frame replaced?

    Many Thanks
