Seems like if the OP is going to upgrade the suspension regardless of model, then it's a matter of features, and besides some cosmetic differences between the two that can be rectified (wheels, grill, leather seats)... the decision is whether or not the OP wants a moonroof (OR with P&T) versus the cavalry color and safety stuff on the 18.

The dealer upgraded OR will be less costly overall (compared to Pro + upgraded suspension later on). So is that extra money you'll spend later on down the line worth it to get the color you said you love?

Put another way... how much money is it worth to not get the angst seeing a cavalry blue tacoma while you're driving around in a white one?

Edit to add: OP, have you driven both? It might seem like a minor thing, but I did not like looking over the scoop on the hood. Helped push me a little bit more towards the OR (over the sport in my case, but the only other thing that you'd get in a cavalry pro vs. an OR is an aesthetic scoop).

It’s a good dilemma to be in. Either way your getting a kick ass truck. But if your heart is set on the Blue I say go for that. and if you swap out the suspension do it fast so you can get top dollar for the Pro suspension.

Test drive both trucks. It’s your call. I would go PRO for resale. In the end, you won’t go wrong with your decision.

If my truck got totaled today, that's what I'd go buy.

I was just in this same dilemna. I wanted cement grey, hood scoop because I like it cosmetically, sunroof, tech pkg, painted rear bumper, etc etc. I really dislike the interior of the Pro with the red accents and since I was going to do my own wheels/tires and suspension I just ordered an 18 OR. The base model is literally exactly the way I wanted it as a base truck then I'm having all the mods done the second it arrives. Between lighting, hood scoop with paint to match, lift, wheels/tires, debadging, tint, exhaust, etc etc it ended up costing less than a Pro and it will be perfect for me. I'll end up keeping the truck for 10+ years so to me resale doesn't matter. I'd rather own the exact truck I want since I hold long term vs buy something just for the possibility of a few thousand higher resale. Just my 2 cents.

    My 2 cents:

Is it your daily driver? If so, you're going to get a better commute out of the stock pro vs. the lifted/tired OR. Plus, you do get the safety features of the '18 model. I just went from an '07 FJ to an 18 OR. While I'll miss the functionality of the battle wagon FJ, I'm really enjoying the new Taco. For reference, all my offroad stuff is incidental and the Taco is doing more daily driving than the FJ. FJ was about 30% with my other CUV about 70%. Now it's about 70/30 favoring the Taco.

There's something special about owning limited production vehicles; ie the PRO. I say drive the PRO for 3-4 years and when it's time for tires (and soon to be shocks), do your upgrades then. I'm sure your buddies will haul you around whenever tackling terrain that's too much for a stock PRO. Or perhaps there's an affordable 1-2" lift for the PRO that will get you by until then?

    Get the OR! Sunroof ftw!

Also, how do you feel about all of the Toyota Safety Sense stuff that comes on the 18s?

Mod list... Well, my paint is factory.
I believe there is a thread about how the 18's cannot be lifted due to TSS. This may limit your choices.

No choice but if a lift messes up the workings of the Safety Sense, who really cares.

Id get the pro if i was in your shoes. Better resale value. Also dont forget you get a lot of cosmetic upgrades like blacked headlights, taillights, trd pro stitching, shift knob, trd catback exhaust, etc...

Well, after driving both and really thinking about it, I decided to go with the OR. The truck itself ended up being $10k less than the Pro since it was a 17 and they wanted to unload it before the end of the year. Also, after seeing the Cavalry Blue up close and in person I actually like the white better. If they would've had a white (or cement) TRD Pro on the lot it would've made the decision a little harder

Congrats man love my white 17 so far. Check out the Chinese fake pro grills. Got mine for 160 and can’t tell a difference!

Should have purchased an Off-Road then. Buying a PRO is like throwing money in the fireplace to use as kindling.

When buying a PRO you're buying: Badges, different suspension, wheels, special edition color.

When you lift it you're throwing away the useless suspension upgrade you paid for. Plus you preplaced the wheels. So all you got was a color (which was later available on cheaper models) and badges. So, you paid $6k or $8k more for stick on badges.

Nobody should buy a PRO. Ever.

Toyota needs to revamp the PRO line. They should cost more but come with a S/C from factory. Anything less than that is all lipstick on a pig. It's the same fucking truck.

You get to keep your man card.

    Congratulations. :)

That blue is awfully feminine in my opinion. Plus a real man doesn't need to spend $10k for stickers/status symbols.
