Triplets!

Found out my wife and I have triplets coming, she is due in October. We have no kids now, so we go from 0 to 3 all at once. I have been managing to squash random panic and turning it into motivation to make sure I have things organized as much as I know to at least ensure organized chaos instead of just standard free for all chaos when they arrive. Is there anyone else on here with multiples who may be able to give me any usable advice besides get sleep now? (that is getting very annoying to hear.) My biggest question now is one crib or 3 mini cribs. Bassinets?... and what the hell is a boppy chair?

I've got 2 of my own - boy & girl.
I'd say 3 separate cribs...
A boppy seat is essentially a baby stand. A moulded p[lastic seat uoyu place the child in that keeps them in an upright sitting position (for the most part).

I already test fit 3 infant seats - all 3 will fit in back of taco, but damn it is tight! My wife is trading her CRV to a Honda Pilot as the primary baby hauler.
I will not buy a minivan.........

My wife and I have twins, they are 4 /12, when we both were about 40. Hard adjustment.

Couple of things: Podee system from Babies R US:

Greatest thing since disposable diapers, when there is only one up for the night feeding - you can feed all at the same time - we did not start using the podee's till after 6 months but what a God send. to be able to feed and change both within a hour in the middle of the night. Also when they are in their stroller at the store not to have to stop and feed, but to give them the nipple and keep going. We had 20 of them.

Our doctor's advice, no child under the age of 6, has ever hurt them self by crying. there was a lot of times in the first six months where, due to scheduling only one of us was there to feed them, feed the one whom cries first and you will end up having to let the other cry, because you only have two hands.

Marker board !! my wife and I would right down when we fed and changed each on the board at night so the other would know what had happened when the other was sleeping, takes the guess work out of it.

Join a local multiple group! They have parents that have been there and can provide support and help. Keeping Pace is one. Because supplies can be crazy - 120+ / month formula, 140+ a month diapers . . . .

Night shifts - set up a schedule for the two of you - for us I had from 8 pm to 1:30 am, then my wife had from 1:30 pm on. This way both parents can get a solid straight block of sleep without going crazy. My wife would go to bed at 8:00 pm.

We kept both in the same crib until they could turn over, at less than 6 pounds a piece, is was an easy fit into a single crib, both with positioners. Even though we had another crib set up, we did not use it for at least 7 months.

Dude...that's awesome - CONGRAT's!

The only advice I can give is to keep them all on the same schedule. If you change one - change all 3. If you feed one - feed all 3. What sucks for multiples is that they disturb each other. You will finally get one down to sleep and another will start crying and wake the other 2 again. It's a battle for the first couple years but will be sooooo much fun when they are a bit older. I only have one daughter but I think the age 2-3 is the most fun. Yes, they can be difficult but at least they can explain why they are being difficult.

Go with 3 cribs and get them in the habbit of sleeping in them. Do it now and you'll be thankful later. You or your wife will be up with 1 or all of them most nights anyway but keep them out of your bedroom. Just buy a comfortable chair or futon to keep in their room.

Boppy's are cool but you won't use it until around 4months - when they can keep their head up. It allows an unstable baby to sit up on their own. Great for development and self-control. You will also want bouncers and rockers - or anything else to keep them occupied. We liked the bouncer that clips to the top of a door jam. It hangs down and they can swing around all they want.

Have a baby shower and invite EVERYONE you know! Each person will bring a $30-$50 gift. You can register at Target, Burlington Coat or Baby's R Us. Go with cheaper stuff cause they grow out of it so quickly.

Congrats...........Well, I had twins but at least the adults equalled the number of babies. Y'all will be outnumbered which will require a live-in mother-in-law. And you thought having kids would be the scary part, lol. There will be much sleep deprivation and priority shuffling. Get some fun in before then because what is important now won't be come October.

 

Our kids were in bassinets next to our bed for a couple months then they went to cribs in their own rooms.

A boppy is not a chair. It's a horseshoe shaped pillow. My wife liked it for nursing. I'm sure she would recommend it. The chair is a Bumbo. We had one and I thought it was going to be cool but neither kid gave a shit about it. I wouldn't recommend it.

 

Hey congrats man we just had twins,also our first, they are 7 weeks old today. Lots of good advice already given but my advice would be to accept all the help your offered. You will want to spend some time with the kids and the wife by yourself at first and thats important but after a few days go by you will really appreciate all the help you can get. When I found out we were having twins it really threw me for a loop for a few days and i really worried about all the extra costs and such, but now that they are here its the best thing thats ever happened to us!

Congratulations!!! We have 10 year old twins and no other children, so twins is all we know. Since you have no other children, trips will be all you know unless you decide for more. I've heard it's tougher when you've already had a single child and then have multiples.

Put them in their own beds always, and rotate them form one bed to another. Be strict on this and it will pay dividends later. Spend some time studying about raising multiples, you will be thankfull you did.

AUDITECH had trips back in May last year and he has been scarce from TW since about October. LOL Enjoy the extra things in life right now because when they arrive, your new life will begin. It will be very rewarding, exciting, and challenging, but always keep a positive attitude and never be afraid to ask family and close friends for help.

Congrats!! I don't have multiples, but do have two small kids, 5 and 3. This is some advice I have for people having kids in general. Since my profession is in finance, my tips will be primarily in that regards.

1. Adjust your federal and state witholding to reflect the three new tax deductions.

2. If you plan on sending them to daycare, set up a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) with you or your wife's employer. The maximum dependent care deduction is $5,000 per year. Big help on federal taxes.

3. If you plan on sending them to college, setup a 529 plan now. $25 per month can go along way. Remember, time is on your side.

One thing on a non-financial note, is pick a good pediatrician. We can call our ped in the middle of the night and actually talk to him. He's old school, but absolutely invaluable.

Good luck! Parenthood is the hardest, most rewarding thing you can ever do. IMO.

 

WOW!!!! From 0-3 is going to be crazy!!!! I get nervous about thinking about having my first kid let alone 3!!!! Best of luck to you guys!!!! I'm sure everything will work out just fine.
