I'd go with a lightly USED 870 Wingmaster with Remchokes.
They're out there and fit and finish of an older Wingmaster is much better than any of the budget shotguns.

Lots of advice on cheap guns here, but it seems you want a semi which rules out most of the suggestions. I agree that for the money, Stoegers and Mossbergs would be the way to go. I've never had either, but I know plenty of people that shoot Mossberg 930's with no issues and Stoeger has always been known for great budget semi-autos.

I fondled a Mossberg 930 the other night and really liked it, and $525 puts puts it only a bit above the usual "holiday bonus" checks that my boss hands out......I've really grown fond of of the borrowed A5 with the Cutts Compensater and external chokes, so hopefully one of those will show up on armslist.

"With a Cutts" = not my thing but I'd take a Poly-Choke on the right barrel.

Key to A-5's is to be ready when you find them and know what you're looking at.

For a real budget - Maverick 88, Mossburg makes them and most all the parts are interchangeable with the 500. I bought mine for $180 at Dicks. I've used it for turkey, grouse, rabbit, quail, and duck so far. Does what it is supposed to do, shoots lead and steel down range and kills shit.

I guess Remington jumped on the mossberg shockwave bandwagon:

Well.....I was going to buy new, but I came across a very clean Beretta AL2 for $400 this morning, but it has a polychoke. My wife's uncle swears by them, but he's the only person that I've ever met with one. Should I run from the polychoke?

Well, I did it. I bought the Berretta....It’s a 1970s model that was originally a 30” Full choke, but cut down for the polychoke. Aside from being a hack job it’s mint and the PO was a super nice dude.

Measures 25.5” with the poly choke.....I think it’s a little short for sporting clays, but I think it’ll be a great field gun that can still bust clays. I’ve got a lead on an unmolested 28” barrel and l’ll still be in for less than $500.

My son likes his Winchester SXP in 20 gauge. I have a Stoeger pump that has been good.

Remington 870 express..... just snagged one one sale after rebate for $230 back in August.

Also would recommend a Benelli Nova if the budget allows.

Those are the two I hunt with. The Remington is my back up
