I’m looking for a flat/matte black license plate frame and a tinted cover... anyone on here know of a good model that fits properly?

Don't know about where you are, but here in Florida tinted license plate covers are illegal.

I see some people with them literally blacked out or so blurred and dirty you cant see the letters, I always wonder how they get away with that, good luck! Amazon has a lot!

Heck I got pulled over in Florida because the sun faded out my clear license plate cover. Tinted would be just asking for it...

Best frames I've ever found come from Joe Portas http://www.knobmeister.com/ and of course he customizes as well.

I have 2 black and two polished, 3 are almost 15 years old, all flawless.

Covers he may or may not have. You're on your own there, 'cause we can't run that in Fl.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's illegal in all 50 states! If there is a state that it's legal in, then it's a shame. People are idiots and cowards for having them. They are just trying to evade the law.

It's also illegal to tint/blackout the tail lights as it's very unsafe especially in the day time as you can't see the tail lights when they go to brake. To some it may look cool (in my opinion it does not in the slightest), but they obviously care more about looks than about safety for others behind them. They are just asking for someone to rear-end them.

I went for the clean look. No cover, no frame. Just mounted the plates with galvanized washers.

So I’m an idiot, coward, and evading the law because I want to put a slight tint over my bright yellow license plate for aesthetic reasons?? That makes complete sense

Covers are illegal, if you have one your breaking the law. But tinted windows, driving with suspended license, driving without insurance etc... are also illegal but people will continue to do it. You know what your doing and you know the risks. Your free to do as you please, just don't make others suffer for whatever choices you wish to make.

a friend of mine recently said he got a ticket for a clear plastic over his tag- I was shocked ( I get it it's illegal but he was parked at wal*mart where he bought it off the shelf) shouldn't they go after the manufacturer? I mean how many people need to pay a small fine for something they still sell? - seems very odd to me.

    Even odder:

Why give the law a reason to stop you? I have no frame or cover on my tag for that reason (not to mention it's state property not mine)

Soon on a TV near you:

Did you or anyone you knew get a ticket for a clear plastic cover.. contact james and james blah blah blah

    Besides:

You have the right to remain silent

There's nothing wrong with manufacturers selling a product. Loud bass music is also illegal and people will still buy and sell sub woofers.

It's also illegal to go over 100mph in most places in the US, but they will continue to buy and sell super cars.

I get those examples: (they are choices)

in CT for example you cannot buy a radar detector as it's illegal in that state. (no choice)

Bingo! I do not need to speak with an on-duty L.E.O., and they do not need to speak to me.

Same here in California, but you can still find one at most electronics stores. Why is this? Who knows, maybe because consequences of using such devices are much more minimal than say, banned firearms? I'm no lawyer or business man, this is just the way of the world.
