Speaking of which, anyone have any suggestions of how to route the usb cord to the "cigarette lighter" to hide the cable from dropping straight down in front of me?

The mounts are the same between the traditional gopro (called the Hero) and the Session. I'm not sure which mounts come with the session.

I don't really see the allure, but if it's worth it to you... fire it up!

There are some inexpensive knockoffs for sale on Amazon that share the same mounting system, so it should clip into the windshield mounts... probably half that $150 budget you said. But they are knockoffs, and you when you go cheap, you get cheap.

The hero has a few more features and slightly higher video resolution than the session. I think the session can be considered a "hero-lite".

    I forgot, I used my Hero2 when I proposed.

Had it on the drivers side door with a suction cup mount, turned the fuel pump off on my Ranger asked her if she wanted to go out for supper. We go a ways down the road until it sucked the bowls dry (I have done a couple trial runs to see how far it would go, always on our low traffic gravel road) and it started coughing and sputtering in dramatic fashion. Tried to restart but it obviously wouldn't have it. Pull over, flip the hood up, monkey around in the DS wheel well. Ask her to come hold my flashlight (I always have a flashlight) she comes around the front corner and there I am with the ring.

It was priceless. I get up shut the hood, and go to get in "what about the truck?" "It was in on it, lets go." Turn the pump on, fire it up and off to meet our parents for supper we went.

I wouldn’t even bother. Unless it breaks. I only went name brand because I thought it would be cool to have mounted and possibly decades later preserved so I could say “yup and it even has the go pro” but the reality is that I will do dumb shit with it like my hero awhile back. Which is broke. But I have a bunch of mounts... I have a dearth of go pro mounts.

I have the Hero 5 in my truck, the only complaint I have is where the mount is. I wish it was more in the middle than off on the ride of the windshield. Kind of a pain to get to and it doesn't capture everything on the left side because the mount is so far off to the right. My two cents.

If you’re talking between hero’s vs session it’s the size mostly, here you can see it’s kinda only the lense when physically compared but mounts should line up...4E3FDDDD-83C1-4646-BA8B-0A9DF9361853.jpg
Here’s a few pics of from my gp4 hero which is mounted behind my rear mirror... you can see some of the sun glares when behind the windshield

    Lights for days! Sasquachified!
Another option if you haven't considered it and need it, is to use the mount for a dash cam. Useful in Cali with all the crazies everywhere.

I had a couple of the double sided tape on mounts for the go pro. Found a cool spot to mount it besides that factory spot. If you mount it on the lens of the interior compartment light, the one top, between the driver and passenger, it shows the interior and out the front windshield. Kinda neat.
