I have a set of the TRD TX Baja springs sitting in my garage. Can I install these with the Bilstein 5100’s (at 0”) using the stock top hats? If I can’t use them can someone please explain why?

I bought these a few years back assuming yes, but have searched/read a handful of posts saying these are not compatible without a provided explanation on why.

The Baja uses a larger diameter shock, it’s similar to the 6112. So no you can’t use them on 5100’s.

Don't know the answer to your original question, but will say to just get new top hats. They're cheap, and I'd consider them a wear item (they probably need to be replaced anyway). Might make assembly easier also, depending on the method you use.

    I went with these: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/kyb-sm5640
