These are something I did a few years ago for a thread on knives, lights and watches. The knife behind the watch in the first photo and the second from the bottom in the second photo was a Spyderco Delica I’ve carried for about 9 years. Unfortunately, I lost it for good last week. New one already ordered.

Saw these little baby spiders on my deck rail and took a photo of them thru the Spyderco Hole on my Delica.

I’d like to have one of those, but they are almost double the cost of any folders I have.

I feel you on that. I got some gift cards and cash for Christmas and used it to buy it. I don't spend that much on knives usually but it seemed like the perfect opportunity to pick up something I'd never buy for myself

Three of my favorite knives for EDC are a Benchmade 940-2, Spyderco Yojimbo 2 and a DPx HEST/F Milspec. They are not the cheapest but certainly not the most expensive either.
The Benchmade and the Spyderco have S30V steel blades and the DPx has a D2 tool steel blade. I really like the S30V steel. Super strong and very sharp. Holds an edge extremely well. The D2 tool steel is tough and takes a beating. All three have different locking mechanisms but they all work equally well. They just take some time getting used to individually, but lock very securely and are smooth opening.

All three have G-10 polymer scales but the DPx HEST/F has a half G-10/half titanium handle with a hex driver built in. You can stick any hex drivers in the handle and use it like a screwdriver. There is also a tungsten carbide glass breaker at the base and jimping on the back of the blade for wire stripping. Plus the blade is very thick and tough. The DPx is more of a utility/survival knife but surely can be used as a EDC. Only downside is that it weighs more than the other two.

The Spyderco Yojimbo 2 has a very aggressive blade and is more of a fighting knife. I really like the Wharncliffe blade design and it has an awesome cutting stroke. Very violent on flesh. Being a straight edge, the blade is very easy to sharpen. This knife is great for slashing and stabbing. Cutting tape on boxes doesn't stand a chance. The downside that I found was the pocket clip. It doesn't ride deep enough in the pocket so I replaced it with a titanium deep carry pocket clip from Blade4sell on Amazon. Works a lot better and looks OEM. Titanium Deep Carry Pocket Clip for Spyderco Knives: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VZRC7R6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_l4B1G1BWFYuD9

The Benchmade 940 is probably one of the most popular EDC knives ever. Great design, great steel and very lightweight. Probably my favorite out of the three since I carry it the most. Instead of the aluminum handle on the 940, the 940-2 has G-10 scales with green spacers. So lightweight and slim it blends in the pocket well and very comfortable. The blade is S30V steel and works well for a variety of applications. Plus it doesn't look too intimidating unlike the Yojimbo 2. Only downside was the pocket clip like the Spyderco. Didn't ride as deep as I would want it. So I replaced it with a matte black titanium deep pocket clip from Blade4sell on Amazon. The matte black is very stealthy. Works a lot better and looks OEM.

That 940-2 is definitely on my list of must haves! Its funny you list s30v and d2 I've been carrying my cutjack lately and it has definitely held up well. Literally just got my paramilitary 2 like 10 minutes ago so I'm excited to see how the s30v holds up.

Winkler/Wilson Combat collaboration axe. The “sale” they’re running hooked me. Pretty serious hardware. Now I want a Winkler knife!

I dig the kydex sheath a lot. It’s a unique design that works well.

I was just showing off the new axe. Got it Friday.

For a dedicated truck axe I recommend something cheap and stainless. Estwing makes a lot of good axes for less than $50. If you want something more classy, consider dropping $120 or so on a Gränsfors Bruk. I have the small forest axe and it’s a good car camping size. The Bruk will need a coat of oil kept on it but it won’t let you down.

Also, consider whether or not you actually need an axe. As a scout, we cut all our wood with a bow saw. They’re lighter and quicker than an axe for cutting firewood. But they’re not as good for making stakes and other bushcraft chores, or for repelling boarders.
