Does anyone know if there is a big brake kit for the 3rd gens yet? I am looking for one with the 2 piece rotors with the forged aluminum hats and calipers. URD has them for the 2nd gens but not the 3rd gens. I went to the Brembo and Stop Tech web sites but they do not have any for the 3rd gens. Any ideas?

Wilwood just announced aluminum hat 2 piece rotors for Tacomas at SEMA this year if you can wait.
Your best bet is to call and speak to Gadget / Stoptech / Brembo.
Majority of 3rd gen parts are carry-over. Compare OEM part numbers.
    You will need 17" rims

The Tundra brakes will not work in the Tacoma unless you have at least 18 inch wheels. I have had the Wilwood BBK for the last month in my garage but was out of town. Next week will be the first week back in town for me so should have them installed and will put pictures in the 3rd gen section. I am considering the OV twin turbo mod that is coming out soon and wanted this mod done before that happens.IMG_0460.jpg

Sorry, but I updated the results in the "what have you done to your 3rd gen today" thread. A copy and paste is below.

Finally had a chance to properly bed in my brakes this morning. I installed the Wilwood big brake kit a few days ago but only drove it a couple of times under their strict guidlines since they were not bedded in which prevents vibrations and uneven wear. I got up around 430am this morning and was amazed at the number of cars on the road. The brakes were gradually warmed up from the 4-5 lights I had to stop at. Then I had to make 10 hard decelerations (ie. panic stops) from 60MPH down to 20MPH. I spent 20 years flying in the Navy and my body is a little more sensitive to the effects of g-forces on it than most people and it definitely felt like the stopping force was greater than the stock brakes. Also, I did not notice any brake fade on any of the panic stops.

I went with the Wilwood BBK since they are American made by an American company and are just as good or better than Brembo brakes which is an Italian company. The forged aluminum parts used made a big difference in weight. The stock calipers felt like picking up a couple of dumbbells at the gym where the Wilwood calipers were light as a feather. I bought this kit for 3 reasons, safety, performance, and aesthetics. The investment made is definitely worth the money spent to me.

Finally, I would like to leave you with a Pro tip. There are 28 bolts that need to be locked in with red Loctite. If you happen to put that tiny tube in your pocket when you are finished then please remember to take it out before you wash your shirt. Ask me how I know, never mind, just a rhetorical question.

One thing more that I did not post in that thread is that the entire box that the Wilwood brake kit came in weighed 47 pounds while the Toyota stock brakes I took off weighed 73 pounds in the same box minus some of the packing materials so it may have been closer to 74 pounds. That means there is 26-27 pounds less unsprung weight with the new system. That is a huge difference. Hope this helps.

Did you happen to weight the difference between the OEM rotor and the 2-piece?
I'm curious how much rotating mass was decreased.

Did you only do the front, or did you do the rear drum-to-disc conversion? Do you have the links for the kits you bought? I've been debating in between this and SOS. Looks awesome, thanks man.

I only did the front brakes and have been very happy with the results over the last year. There was a time when I was considering the rear brake conversion but decided against it since most of the braking is done by the front brakes. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know if this will work on the 2019 Tacoma TRD Pro? The reason that I ask that is that the wheels on the pro have an offset that are different than the other Tacoma's of the same year. Thanks in advance!

I am out of town but the Wilwood kit number is 140-14577. These require a 17 inch wheel and they also make a larger kit for 18 inch wheels. I can also get further information next week if you need it. Hope this helps.
