Hello, I've been getting information from this forum for years and finally got a Tacoma. I joined a few months ago shortly after I bought my truck but am just getting round to introducing myself.

I'm not new to Toyota trucks, I had a 2014 Tundra SR5 that was a great truck.

Then life was changing. I was looking for a new company to work for and everywhere I was applying would at least double my commute. The idea of driving 18k miles a year with the Tundra's fuel economy and the other maintenance costs associated with a larger truck started to become a consideration. I owed a little on the truck and considered a small used car or getting my wife her Tacoma she wants and using our Matrix as a commuter. But, the realization that we live in the buckle of the rust belt, the truck sitting would be certain death of it in short time. I made some consideration of the utility that the half ton provides and when compared with a Tacoma, I wouldn't be losing much that matters to me. I haul bikes, kayaks, atvs, and general home owner BS. I don't work out of my truck or tow anything over 5k lbs. All of which is well within midsize truck territory. Hardest thing for me to get over before making the jump was wrapping my head around losing the 5.7, but it had to go for the mpg.

I looked at a GMC Canyon with the 2.8L diesel. Nice trucks, expensive, didn't test drive it. Last thing I wanted to do was test drive a truck with diesel that I knew I wouldn't be happy with the interior. Again, 18k miles a year = 12+ hours a week seat time. The interiors in the competition just aren't that appealing in my opinion.

So, the hunt for a right taco lead me to my MGM DCLB TRD OR. By this time next week I will have 12k miles on the truck since I picked it up at the end of April. At this point I have not missed the Tundra at all other than going through tunnels (I had an AFE catback single exit on it). I average 19 mpg overall, my atv fits in the bed just fine, and all my costs dropped with this truck. I find it much more comfortable, easier to use, and parts are more readily available when the time comes.

So far, I got the front windows tinted to match the factory back tint, brow tint, custom color-matched flag decal, AVS ventvisors, Scosche MagicMount, and Husky Weather Beaters. I removed the chrome stock tube steps, got remote start and undercoating.

Near future mods are going to be Discoverer AT3s in LT265/75R16s, debadgeing, diff breather mod, and hopefully swapping the grille, while leaving the chrome trim. I'd also like to upgrade the headlight bulbs.

Additional mods for down the road I would like to get some aftermarket mid-travel setup with a different leaf spring setup to handle better with 400-600lbs in the back, the C4 Fab Low Pro Winch Bumper and C4 Sliders, TRD Pro front skid, Pelfreybilt Pro midskid and back skid (alu), SwitchPros with SDHQ mount, various lighting, and ARB onboard air. We'll see what happens. Somewhere along the line my wife is going to get her taco because of how patient she has been with me, also, modding mine will be easier because she will get a similar mod done to hers. :D

I'm in southwestern PA and would like to get involved with some wheeling in the PA/Ohio/WV area. Looking forward to putting many miles on this truck.
