I have 2016 Limited. I did not like the harsh ride so I switched the Hitachi shocks for Bilstein 5100s. The ride is significantly better, but still not as controlled as my son's 2016 OR. Are the springs different between the Limited and the OR, or am I seeing a difference in the ride related to tire and wheel size difference? The compliance in the first 2" of travel in the OR is noticeably different. The OR is less harsh and feels more "planted".

16 inch tires on the OR will give a softer / different ride .

Offroad has a progressive rate coil spring.
Leaf springs are different as well. It will load and unload differently, which not only affects the rear but how the front reacts.

Tire; diameter/profile/type/manufacturer will have an effect.

Supposedly, the 5100s have the same valving as OEM Bilsteins. If you have additional preload for lift, that will have an effect.

2wd vs 4wd will have an effect.

    Wheelbase will have an effect.

So the Limited coil is not progressive? If I only replace the front springs with the OR springs, is the ride height going to be the same? I keep seeing OME 887 springs, how do those compare with the stock OR springs?

99% sure the Offroad springs are the only ones that are progressive; it is in part responsible for the reports of a more compliant ride. Other than that, I won't comment on ride quality, as it is really subjective.

If you're going to change out to Bilstein 5100s, ride height will change slightly anyway. There will also be a .5" difference between 2nd gen vs 3rd gen 5100s.
887s are a lower spring rate but taller coil. They will lift between 2"-2.25"; again, depending on if you get the 2nd gen or 3rd gen 5100s.

Couple links from Headstrong that might help you out. If you have more questions, Marie at Headstrong has a stellar reputation helping folks out.

Looks like y'all are full of excellent information in here. I may know someone with off road shocks n coils for sale with 1086 miles on them. Rear leaf springs are the same regardless of package you have. If you are wanting to lift, there are so many different options. I'd suggest King shocks front and rear with either an add a leaf pack or ARB Dakar leaf pack. Marie at @HeadStrong Off-Road is well versed, give her a call.

Thanks for the info. Are the leafsprings also different in the OR?

Sorry. I just read your post. Otherwise I would not have sent my previous post. I would be interested in the front coils. I already have the Bilstein 5100s. Let me know how to contact that someone.

Here https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/ . You already have shocks, so you just need springs front n rear and maybe UCA's. Marie can help you out with all this and pricing. Suggestion, if you decide on the add a leaf pack, keep the over load leaf in. Too many customers of mine have decided to leave iy out and have brought the truck back to me to put it back in. If you go with the Dakar leaf pack, then this isn't a concern.

Interesting. I know that that the second gen had different springs, I also have an 09 Off Road (Stock springs with 5100's). I just picked up a 2017 Sport and I was trying to find out if the front springs were different on the Off Road. I was told that they are the same as the Sport for the third gen. I like the ride of the Sport with the 17in rims (stock tires still). I have not taken it off road yet.
If someone can confirm the front springs for both that would be great.

When you referred me to Headstrong, do they have OR springs (take offs) or do they have/make something similar? If you say the leaf springs are the same in all the models and I already have the 5100s all I would need would be the front springs, right? Should I expect a ride height difference? I don't want a "bro-lean", and now the ride is level.

Then no, they don't have anything similar to OR springs. You'd have to find a used set here or on craigslist. Here in the 3rd gen fs section probably be your best bet.

As an owner of an off road 2016 I can tell you, at first I thought the little yellow shocks were too small for a truck. The salesman never spoke about the different models and how they are set up, he probably doesn't know. So I came to my own conclusion that the suspention is soft to absorb off road conditions, but the roads are so bad in New Jersey, it is a blessing.
