Guess my post on pot roast is buried back quite a few pages now. For pot roast I add a can of coke, and when doing a turkey breast in the crock pot a can of 7Up. I call it gun club pot roast because most of the gun clubs around here do it for registered shoots where you end up spending a good part of the day at the club. A couple of ladies that own a catering business started doing it at one club and it has spread to the other clubs due to demand. It is that good and makes that much of a difference. But people do it all over the country not just gun clubs LOL. Do a search on "Cola Pot Roast" you'll get an idea, it is usually peoples favorite way of doing it once they try it. And is easy to do.

Basically what ever beef roast your cooking just add a can of Coke to it and skip any water if it calls for it. About half an hour before it is finished stir in a couple tablespoons of cornstarch to thicken it if you want. I like a traditional pot roast so usually make it with potatoes, celery, carrots, and onions. And add a dry pack of onion soup mix and package of au jus mix. And a can of coke. The coke takes the beef to a whole nother level.

Pot Roast can mean any number of cuts of beef and it does make a difference. Doesn't help that it varies by region around the country. They all can turn out good but normally Chuck Roast is used for pot roast and can be chuck roast, shoulder steak, boneless chuck roast, chuck shoulder roast, chuck pot roast, or beef chuck arm, etc. Top and bottom round roasts and sirloin tip roast can also be good but would start with chuck for a first pot roast IMO. Good luck it will turn out fine in a crock pot pretty much no matter how you do it.

About 12 years ago at Cabela's and as usual it is sold out. They always seem to have a hard time keeping them in stock and they go fast when they are in stock. Search from time to time for item IK-540322 and when it is in stock grab it, well worth the money I love it. And look for free or $5 shipping they usually have some type of promo on shipping. Weighs close to 50 pounds so spendy to ship it with normal freight.

I cooked it all in there.

Stove top is the way most of the recipes are. I just threw it all the the pot, except noodles; cooked them according to directions and added them at the very end.

    Slow Cooker Guinness Beef Stew

    Ingredients

    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 1/2 lb lean beef stew meat
    • 1 teaspoon coarse salt
    • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
    • 2 tablespoons flour
    • 4 large yukon golden potatoes, peeled (or not) and largely diced
    • 2 large carrots, peeled and diced into 1 inch pieces
    • 2 large parsnips, peeled and diced into 1 inch pieces
    • 1/2 large yellow onion, chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 generous tablespoon tomato paste
    • 4 cups beef broth
    • 11.2 fluid ounce bottle Guinness Extra Stout (about 1 cup + foam)
    • Coarse salt and ground black pepper to taste
    Instructions
    1. In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium high heat. Turn slow cooker on.
    2. In a large bowl, toss beef together with salt, pepper, and flour to coat. Add to the pan and cook until all sides of the chunks are browned (about 8 minutes).
    3. While beef is browning, add potatoes, carrots, parsnips, onion, garlic and tomato paste to the slow cooker. Stir to coat.
    4. Add browned beef, beef broth, and Guinness to the slow cooker and stir to combine.
    5. Cook for 3-4 hours on high, 8-10 hours on low. Add salt and pepper to taste and serve with a pint of Guinness.

well i ended up with one of the crock pot lunch warmer things. it does a mean soup from a can but warns not to cook with it as it only gets to 160 or so. I have seen some omelets that looked good, maybe a molten cake if left all day and leftovers are the bombs. anyone else have one of these little crocks?
