I recently bought my 2016 Tacoma SR Access Cab, and my only beef with it is you cannot unlock the passenger door with a key, and per the dealership, it's not an option to get keyless entry, even though it has power locks. I was told I'd have to go aftermarket.

I've been reading that is a common frustration with this model.
It makes no sense to me as to why Toyota did this on this model. Well I have it now, so what to do next?

I've been contemplating getting an alarm system installed, with keyless entry, but a coworker recently mentioned looking into getting a door handle from Australia. Is this something that is feasible? Has anyone replaced the passenger door handle this way, to have the option to unlock the passenger side with a key?

    Thoughts?

Turn the key to unlock twice and it opens the passenger door. :)

I know that trick, but I want to be able to go straight to my passenger side to put stuff in for work.
I'm wondering who thought this setup was a good idea. LOL

you can check to see if you have the wireless receiver tucked up under the glove box, if not, and the wiring is there, it may be possible to salvage a receiver from the junkyard, get some fobs, and then program them to the truck.

Do you have a key fob with unlock button? If so, push the unlock button twice.

My truck is a 2016 SR access cab with keyless entry.

No, it didn't come with a key fob. I asked if maybe the previous owner didn't turn it in with the truck, and was told this year/model doesn't have the keyless entry.
I asked if I could pay them to set up a keyless entry, they said it wasn't an option.

Did you get your truck new?

I get not offering keyless entry because it's "just an SR", but why take away the key entry on the passenger side? LOL
If the drivers door lock gets jacked up (like my 2000 SR5 did when someone tried to break into it) you're screwed, with no other access option.

Yes, I got the truck new and it has keyless entry, cruise control, and upgraded wheels as part of a package. They should offer you keyless entry!

The" convenience package" which is available on the sr's includes cruise and keyless. I'm sure it can be added for a price.
