    Ovtune review:

I’ve put about 900 miles on the tune so far and I wanted to give some of my feedback on the tune. I know no one is able to run the tune yet but I figured people might want to know what to expect. So just as a recap the mods my truck had done to it at the time of tuning:

Afe cold air intake, jba shortie headers, stock ypipe, 3” catback exhaust, bypass valve jet removed, 255lph fuel pump, 2.85 pulley. Dyno done in 3rd gear with stock tire size (265/65r17)
    94D715B4-0CB5-4999-B07A-05217E0924C9.jpg

As far as drivability goes, the truck feels smoother through the whole rpm range. I’m not sure if it makes sense to people when I say that, but the more pedal you give it the power just keeps coming. I felt like with the trd tune it was an initial jolt of power, then on the top end it would start to slow down. Not with the ov tune, truck keeps pulling to redline in a more linear feeling.

I know people are interested in low end improvements. When I first got the tune you could definitely tell it was a little more peppy on the low rpm range. I don’t think that it is a huge difference, but I have noticed going up hills while already at speed the truck maintains it speed a lot better than it used to. Again it’s not a groundbreaking change but something is better than nothing, and I imagine as the tune progresses Mat might be able to squeeze some more power in this area.

Getting up to speed and shifting near rpm ranges: (I figure I will give my experiences here and it will be up to you guys to determine if it’s an improvement to your situation or not)

2k rpm: Not extremely fast but not a slug either. This is my normal everyday driving acceleration. I’m not getting trampled by the people in california who want to do 85 in a 55 5 seconds after a stop sign. (A little over exaggeration, you get the point)

2k-2.5k rpm: Truck gets up to speed in a breeze, usually when I do this I am accelerating faster than most other cars at the stoplight.

3k-3.5k rpm: I’ve done this a few times for merging on the freeway. This is where the tune really shines in my opinion. I can feel the torque and it’s hard not to just mash the skinny pedal down and keep going. Sadly when driving in this rpm range you will get to speed very quickly so unless you want a speeding ticket you have to let out, but it still puts a smile on my face every time I do it.

I know there will be people wanting to know how my mpgs have changed. I first want to note I use fuelly for my fillups and also calibrate my ultragauge at every filling. Before tune my calibration stayed around 1.047, and after tune it is staying pretty consistent around 1.073. This tells me the truck is using more fuel (I was in the 1.047 range after adding some mods to lean out my afr and it definitely showed, stock the truck was around 1.067-1.089 depending on driving habits).

With that out of the way, overall fuel economy hasn’t changed in any drastic ways I would say. I haven’t really been able to get a good comparison because for the first couple fillups I was having a lot of fun with the tune, so naturally my mpg was going to be less than usual. Recently I have been doing a lot of idling so that kills the mpg as well, but if you look at my fuelly my last fillup was 17.2 mpg

Overall mpg is pretty close to what it was before the tune. I want to say it’s a little bit better, but I can’t say for certain. Also it’s an awkward time to compare because I am pretty sure we are getting winter gas now and I know by nature it kills some mpg. If you don’t drive the truck like a sports car and keep it at 55 - 65 mph it gets decent gas mileage for what it is.

Overall I am very satisfied with the tune. Before I was tuned I was considering getting a 2.7 pulley. But now that I am tuned I am pretty happy with where the truck is. If the truck finds it’s way to the dyno again I might be willing to slap on a 2.7 pulley, but like I said for now I am happy with how it performs.

Sorry for the long winded post. If you have any questions ask away and I will try my best to answer them.

Glad to be of help! Hopefully Mat is able to get everyone tuned soon! I think he’s working on a big release for the 3rd gens and maybe after he completes that everyone in here will get some love!

Just plugged the OVTuner into my PC. Got a nice pile of updates. Going to try to download the truck ECU again.

Well truth is, I was hoping to do that little race with my son before I start doing a bunch of testing and treatment for a serious medical condition. Didn't want to have to have someone else try figuring it out in the event it becomes worse then it is.

guys, I believe the 3rd gens had 4-5 releases since the initial tune.

First release will still require some adjustments afterwards.

I'm not in as big of a rush as some others but I have a question. Weeks ago supposedly 70% of the ecu codes were updated but somehow not one person had been able to link theirs? Sounds fishy to me unless they are updated and not released or something along those lines
