Will this work if my phone is in an Otterbox Commuter?

Works great with my Note 8 as well. I had an S5 with a retrofit wireless charger thing installed in it and it worked fine as well, just had to be in a specific spot. Note 8 works a bit better but it had wireless charging from factory.

I like it especially on long trips it will keep the phone topped off when going through areas that have horrible signal that are good for draining battery.

It was more useful with the older S5 as that thing would die much quicker. The Note 8 is pretty amazing battery life wise.

    The answer is it depends.

My wife's S8 worked in a Defender, but my Note 8 did not. It did work in a Commuter though. Probably depends on the phone as well. Commuter though is more likely to work.

I have an S7 and this works great however it heats up the phone too much. My wireless docks at home and work do not do this but in a pinch I use the one in the truck. It's handy when I need it but overall I don't use it.

My Note 5 gets ultra hot and charges extremely slowly. My wife's S7 is the same way. I have used some very good desktop chargers so I know its not the phones.

S7 Owner here. Left for work today with an 85% battery. Arrived at work after my 15 minute commute with my battery at 100%

Not one issue with the Qi charger since I got the truck in July 2016.

My Note 8 doesn't get very warm. But I haven't charged it for an extended period of time yet.
