No. You don't have to remove anything. Just stick your head further into the floorboard and look straight up. It looks like a large version of the springs used on wooden clothes pins.

Coat the shit out of it and you'll be good to go.

Its real easy to get at if you remove the lower dash panel. (as seen in step 5 here https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-light-mod-step-by-step-picture-heavy.403875/ )

All that spring does is make it a lil easier to push the clutch once you get past the hard spot (which is the spring compressing) I may try to ditch the spring if no one else has. It puts a lot of force on the pedal and its pivots and is just more stuff to creak and squeak. I never had a problem pushing clutches w/o a helper spring.

I feel u on the long drive. I live just past BFE. Lol! I just think some stuff should b addressed for free on a $30,000+ truck. It’s the principle. But I don’t blame u for not wanting to run back and forth.

I use a long wooden Q-Tip to get the disc brake grease up in there, I push the clutch pedal in and out with my left hand during application to make sure I get all the areas. I have done this on my 08, 15, and 17 and all have been silent afterwards. I do a first application and wait a week or so and then a 2nd time just in case I missed a spot and the pedal is not only silent but also moves smoother.

The problem always seemed to be heat related so through all my experimenting it seemed that lubes and grease would melt off and the creaking barn door sound would return. I then figured that Disc Brake Grease is for extreme high Temps and once I used it never had the problem return.

yep, just finished the job. funny that I've never inspected the spring in motion before.

i used my finger with a latex glove on and lubed up the spring inside & out fully and pretty clean in the end. it was immediately smoother and a bit lighter. I've never used the disk brake grease before either so i can see how that's gonna stick around a while.

it didn't fix my looseness and play in the pedal, but this is pretty good and likely quiet. thanks all.

I also did more than just the Spring, I get at every pivot point and even get a little in the cup that the pushrod is in. Looseness sounds kinda weird, that seems like something they should replace if the pedal is flopping around.

Ya, like St. I gots a little lateral movement in mine as well, 》1/8 inch for sure. Operationally it doesn't both me, but it does give me the heebie jeebies if I wiggle my foot on it to make it laterally move...kinda like stepping on a dead fish in your bare feet...or looking at this if you have an irrational fear of holes

Did you have to take anything apart, or just try to pack the grease in there?

Mine started creaking a few months ago, but it stopped since the weather has been colder.
I took it to the dealer for the 10k service and told them about it. Of course it wasn't creaking then. I guess I'll have to go back when it warms up again.

Nope, never took anything apart, just use a long wooden Q-tip and push the clutch pedal in and out with my left hand while getting the grease on all the pivot points, lay a good flashlght down before you start so you can see up under there.

I had the creak. They greased it and it solved the problem but it came back after about 6 months. They replaced the pedal with a newer part and the problem has been solved completely

I've been having the clutch creak with my floor heater all winter this year.

I brought it in to the dealer this morning since I'm still under warranty. They looked at it and handed me an old service bulletin (for 2nd gens?) and said they'll fix it today if I was okay leaving it there a while. They ended up putting in a new master cylinder assembly and a new clutch pedal assembly. Who knows if it's fixed for good or if it'll just go bad again next year...

I've noticed the clutch feel is now noticeably different. My factory clutch pedal was quite firm and then got lighter with further pedal travel/clutch engagement. Now it feels much lighter/consistent throughout engagement, more similar to other MT cars I've driven. I'd always thought it was weird how progressively sprung the original one felt, but now that I'm used to that this feels weird. :notsure:
