I read all these posts but I never understand why anyone would jeopardize a $30,000 investment by not changing oil - it's cheap - it's quick - it's easy. Extended OCI are for politically correct politicians not for truck guys IMHO. BTW waste oil can be burned for heat it doesn't have 2B dumped in a land fill. I know people who heat their shops for free with it. Win Win

WHERE did you read this ? No one recommends 3000 on dino. Toyota says conventional 5w-30 for the v6 at 5000 miles. Synthetic at 5000 if you wish but 3,000 - just a waste of money.

Ok, now I'm confused. Are you all just ignoring the recommended scheduled or do you honestly not know what the manual recommends?

I have an 08 Tacoma and change the oil every 5K miles, I will not use synthetic for the simple fact if you take care of your vehicle per manufacturer specs your vehicle will take care of you. I also think it would be a major project to reset the the programmed maintenance light from 5K to 10K, if it is even possible to do.
I do 5 to 6 oil changes per year.

If you change oil with syn. at 5K you just like to spend money put dino in it and change at 5K maybe it will only last 300K instead of 305K.

Anyone who changes their oil before 10,000 miles is wasting money, unless of course you race or drive like a maniac. Also who ever runs conventional motor oil needs to know that synthetic motor oil has 8 times the film/ protection strength as conventional oil.

    You're starting a fight ...

I, of course, agree with you; plus add that it's good for the environment to extend oil changes. I don't know about he eight times thing; sounds like a car sales pitch.

The biggest argument against the 10K changes for the early 2nd Gen Tacos is that synthetic was not tested on them; hence, the manual does not recommend it. We both know that's a weak argument but you just can't change everyone's mind. I'm using Mobil 1 5/30 Full Synthetic High Mileage and Purolator One (blue) synthetic oil filters, the large PL30001. I've submitted two oil samples for analysis and the results confirm my engine is doing well with synthetic and 10K oil changes.

Used Mobil1 5-30, changed at 10,000. Blackstone said I could try another 2,000 if I wanted. Good enough for me. Will be changing oil at 10k intervals using Mobil1 5-30. I've also gone to a larger filter, the Mobil1 Extended Performance in a M209 size.

In fact I'm changing the oil today. First change since the switch to a larger filter.

I should add that most, if not all, oil manufacturers recommend changing out the oil after one year, regardless of mileage or oil type. Thus, it's 10K or one year for me.

Cmon its not rocket science, I sent my oil in to Blackstone labs for analysis after 7500 miles they said go to 10k. Get yours checked then you can do it right.

I noticed quite a few people here that are all about extended oil change intervals are from area's that I suspect don't see extreme temperature's in six month periods. I run Toyota full synthetic 5W-30 at 5,000 KM intervals because going from -30C to +30C in six months is hard on fluids. Combined with the lovely ethanol requirement in fuel in my province I want to do my best to minimize contaminants in my oil.

Using a different oil type in your engine does nothing to change your warranty.

I've been running full synthetic for 10k mile intervals since I bought my truck at 27k. It does very well. Right now I'm running Mobil 1 Annual Protection. I'm getting close to 15K miles on that oil. Will change here soon and send a sample into Blackstone Labs.

People need to get it out of their head that doing anything outside of the manual has anything to do with their warranty.

    So many things wrong here.

First of all, I'm sure no one here said they recommend not changing the oil in their trucks.

Secondly, you need to learn what the definition of an investment is. Regardless of how much we love our trucks, they are depreciating assets.

    what I think......

if I were to run 10K miles...I'd change the filter at half time & top off oil level

    Filters aren't expensive
