fluid film applied last year and I'm not sure if I should go to car wash and clean frame with high pressure sprayer. Will I need to reapply. Going into the winter the coating looked solid.

I wouldn’t use a pressure washer, I would use a garden hose with a spray nozzle. A pressure washer will blast the FF off and it’s too early in the season for that.

You will always have to reapply FF depending on how much you drive and how many times you wash underneath.

I can get away with once a yr. usually do it in the fall and I will wash the undercarriage with a spray nozzle and hose as soon as the weather permits after a storm and road salt.

So basically the next day or days above freezing you’ll rinse off the the frame/underbody with just a garden hose ? The FF still stays intact ? Til spring

Yes, when it’s above freezing I will spray the undercarriage with the hose to help wash off the salt from the roads. The FF will last longer with out using a pressure washer, but even regular wet roads and the spray that comes up from the tires will eventually remove FF in those blasted areas, that’s why it needs to be reapplied annually.

When I reapply in the fall, there is still a good coating on a majority of the frame, but some areas where the tires throw up water, that FF is pretty much gone.

FF isn’t something you do once and your protected forever.

Did you spray the transmission with FF or avoid it ?

Yes on the transmission, the only thing I didn’t spray was the muffler, I lowered the spare, and did under there also. I also have the special spray tip that attaches to a rattle can on 2’ off hose to get in tight spots. Like inside back bumper, inside frame rails, the rest I do with a undercoating gun.

After you have done it a few times, you get quicker, It takes me now about 25min. to it now.

Buy it by the gal. and use a small compressor is the way to go. You can use rattle cans also, but a compressor and undercoating gun really blast that stuff everywhere fast.

Yes, I use a undercarriage washer I made:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...solidation-thread.355928/page-4#post-11718350

which just uses normal garden hose pressure. I use this frequently when driving in salted road conditions and the Fluid Film still seems to be providing a coating of protection.

On my truck, (except for areas adjacent to the wheel wells), the Fluid Film seems to still be providing a protective film even after 3 winters.

Nice! I also made one and it works great. Here is a screen shot of my post about it.

    SWEET!!!
Care to expand on the homemade nozzles? Looks like the hot setup for us in salt country.

I just drilled a line of 1/8 holes about 6” apart. Then you need to disrupt the flow of water in each of those holes to create a nozzle to get spray. I did that by jamming pieces of plastic zip ties in each hole, then heated an old spoon, melted the zip tie end that was sticking out to deformed it, thus creating a spray. I can just stand on one side of the truck and do the whole truck.

That is damned smart! I need to do that with my homemade garden waterer.

Edit: remind me next spring, please. :)
