Has worked well for plenty of people. Check the owner reviews on Edmunds. Colorado has like a 4.1 rating or something while the Tacoma has a 3.5

    Was a funny commercial.

    - buy a Tacoma, spend $'s for software to fix factory programming.
    - buy a Tacoma, watch it smoke on steep inclines.
    (only kidding).

I would venture a guess that the majority of people who purchase a Tacoma don't do much off-road driving. Much like most owners of any brand pick up. I have had pick ups for years. I just happen to like them better than cars.

    Funny commercial.

I hope GM responds in kind (I think they will) as it could make for some epic commercials.

They can do an offroad comparo of ZR2 vs Pro.

And then the Nissan Frontier can hobble in with a walker and hearing aid and yell "You kids get outta my yard!"

    - Yep. that is why I purchased a pro 4x in 2016.
Frontier may be dated, but most of the bugs have been worked out. lol
Did I mention the price was a lot less than the Tacoma or GMC twins?

As of now, the Colorado has been more reliable than the 3rd gen taco. Also, depreciation is a win for the Taco, but if you do the math from the beginning by including a 5k higher purchase price for the Tacoma, then the math favors the Colorado. Not being a contrarion here, just stating facts. You can get a Colorado Z71 CC for like $31k. I have yet to see a dealer sell a DC TRD OR for less than $35 or 36,000. Saving 2k on depreciation doesn't help you if you pay 5k more to start (plus higher taxes, interest, fees, etc).

    Agree.

For me the depreciation is not a big deal. I keep vehicles for 8-10 years. Yes, the Tacoma holds value pretty well. For the most part you pay more for a new Tacoma comparted to some other brands. So when it comes time to sell/trade the extra money would be good if you bought something other than a Tacoma. If you are just going to purchase another Tacoma, you need the added value because they are more expensive than other brands.

So far the 3gen seems to be holding value well. It will be interesting to see how a 2016 Tacoma goes for in 2026.

    Reliability
Although the latest Toyota Tacoma is too new for reliability ratings from experts at J.D. Power, last year's Chevrolet Colorado earned two circles out of five in the firm's Power Circle Rating, indicating worse than average reliability. The Tacoma, meanwhile, has enjoyed a strong reputation for dependability, and we suspect the new model will continue that position.

    Can't belive the internet.....smh

According to owner's reviews (edmunds, car complaints.com, etc), Colorado has had less problems. When you look at recalls, the Tacoma has 4, the Colorado has 2. The Tacoma was actually one of the only Toyota vehicles not recommended in some auto media reviews for their reliability issues.

Yes. And no, I have not manually counted every complaint there vs every complaint here. I let other websites do that for me. And like I said, Toyota has more issues so far.

Don't read it as negative. If you truly are drawn to gm, have at it. I have owned both. Seriously though. Let us know what you think after the switch.

I own neither right now. Have owned both in the past. There is no switching for me. I buy based on unbiased research into both. I will be buying 1 of the 2 later this year. Not sure which yet.

Switching to Nissan is totally your choice too. If you own it in 5 years come back and tell us about your awesome decision

That's true. Toyota's traditional marketing strategy is studied a lot because it's effective. They segment the market, target those segments and position based on buyer's perceived needs and brand reputation. They can actually spend less than GM, Ford, Chrysler and be more effective because their ads aren't constantly chasing pop culture or snipping at other brands or models. The old saying goes, the trucks used to sell themselves. Perhaps they are worried about the market, the Tacoma has been a cash machine for them for a long time without doing much.
