Had maintenance service performed a few weeks ago, they pointed out a hole in my muffler. I got underneath and looked at the hole and the seam in the side of the muffler that's basically come apart.

So, I'll be looking for a local muffler shop soon.

In the meantime, here's what my muffler looks like after 148,000 kilometres (92,000 miles) on my 2010, TRD DBL Cab (purchased new on September 17, 2010 i.e. almost 7 years with my Taco). I've lived in four provinces in the last five years, moved across Canada from the Prairies, to the West (best) Coast, to central Canada, then back to the Prairies, hauling an 18 foot travel trailer for fun and to help with moving the whole time. No major malfunctions with my Taco since I bought it. Just a few little things like some rust around the windows (which was taken care of by Toyota), and the #@#@&!(#*@$%$! blower motor chirp which I've just grown to ignore lol (yes, I've had it replaced, and I tried mods, didn't work for me - said fuck it if this is the major malfunction with my truck I can take it lol).

I love this truck. I'll keep putting synthetic in it and let it drive us until it needs to be put to pasture.

    Cool

Glad I don't live in the north with the salt. My 2010 has 130k and no rust.

Ugh must be nice without salt! It's used a lot on the west coast and in central Canada. I had the rest of my undercarriage sprayed when I bought it. There's a few spots now that are rusting that I'll clean up, and probably get another undercoating done on it to keep it as healthy as I can for as long as I can.

I just replaced the stoke muffler and pipe. My truck is a 06 with 110K on it. Over the past month the hole in the back of the muffler kept getting bigger and bigger. I was lucky and found a brand new take off for cheap. Hope the same luck finds you!

Late reply to this - so when the (st)ealership found this problem, along with an issue with my lower ball joints needing replacement, they quoted me $7,000.00. Seriously. Mind you, this was for OEM parts too. But, 7 grand for ball joints and a muffler? As fucking if.

So I found a local muffler shop to replace the muffler, and they said they could do my lower ball joints too. All in (parts, labour, taxes) I was quoted $1,300.00 using aftermarket MOOG lower control arm/lower ball joint and a Walker muffler, and they came in just a little under their quoted price.

I was thinking pretty seriously about a new pickup (Tundra) in December, but could not believe the price of a new pickup truck now. Going to try and keep my Taco in good shape with good maintenance for as long as I can instead.
