Dropped off the Taco for service today and the service advisor told me he just saw a corporate memo that mentioned an all electric Taco for 2020. Trying to see if I can get my eyeballs on this or better yet, a copy. Anyone else hear about this?

Hybrid maybe but not all electric. Perhaps farther in the future but 2020 is too soon. There's a lot of other models they would go all electric in before the Tacoma.

I for one do not believe 2020 is achievable. I would think Toyota would roll it out in more urban friendly vehicles first before it hits the trucks and larger SUVs.

    it will be a hybrid

and not in 2020 that is for sure

and not all electric that is also for sure
all electric are more than 5 years or even a decade away if they decide to do it

At that point they should just stop making them, or just shorten the corporate name and call it a Toyo̶t̶a̶ Tacoma (batteries included)...

A couple months ago I saw a Tacoma driving down the street that was de-badged, had the front grill cover up so you couldn't see the front logo, but it was obviously a Tacoma. It had a few laptop and monitor/display on the passenger area of the truck. I noticed that when it got to a stop light the engine shut-off and when the light turned green, the engine started right back up again.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it or something new they are testing but it might be related.

Also, it had the state of Michigan manufacture license plates on it, which is weird because the Tacoma are made in Texas.

Sounds like a hybrid, which is where I can see the truck going before full panel electric with no rub.

I don't get this fascination so many have with electric vehicles. In the first they are NOT "zero-emission" vehicles: they operate with just about the same (or worse) well-to-wheels emissions and simply relocate, and concentrate, said emissions to the power plants generating the electricity. All the time creating additional load on the power grid making us even more dependent on same. The end result is one stop shopping for anyone that wants to take us down.

Also should they actually replace petroleum powered vehicles to any significant extent you can bet governments are not just going to sit idly and watch highway fuel taxes go away. Power to charge electrics will be metered separately and taxed--likely at higher per mile rates than current fuel taxes, with volume based discounts for high volume users, so that the "little guys" will end up paying most of it. This is a direction many jurisdictions are already drooling over.
