Glad to be here. I'm so old I used to belong to bulletin boards. Geesh. Anywho here is my deal:

First time truck owner --- 2008 Tacoma TRD 2wd. Bought the truck back in May from what appeared to be a fastidious owner. All records --- all maintenance done. I drove the truck and seemed everything was ok. Couple of months later I experience the "axle wrap" that appears to plague many with that model. There is a TSB but the repair apparently only extended to 60K.
Any suggestions? Can't afford the 2 grand that they are saying would take care of it. Appreciate the welcome.

    Welcome!

Is the truck still drivable? I'd say just drive it until you have money to fix it, or buy a rear axle from a wrecked Taco. The price you have been quoted is for a brand new OEM axle, installed by overpriced dealer technicians.

One thing you might notice is that the more time you spend on TW, your truck tends to get nicer, but your money tends to just disappear!

muchas thanks. Truck is fine except for the annoyance. Have been told that continuing to drive it won't cause any harm just a bother
