I have no issue buying used vehicles. I overhauled my first engine before I started driving and short of body work, I'm fairly comfortable repairing cars. Where I live, the prices they want for a used Taco are so ridiculous, I bought new. I bought my truck for less than what I saw similarly equipped used trucks were being listed for. Were they getting the high price? I don't know, but every truck used listed was crazy high.

That being said, around here, anything 4X4 pulls good money.

Also, I tried the Costco program. While they try to provide a great service, it's really up to the dealers to decide if to give you a good deal. The local "Costco" dealership really didn't want to work a fair deal, they were just using the program to funnel more buyers to them. Not Costco's fault.

The best way we figured out to buy new was to figure out what we wanted, what we were flexible on, and what were no-gos as far as the vehicle was concerned. We then contacted about 25 dealerships via email (don't call or talk to them, you want to work with the internet manager) telling them what kind of truck we wanted and what the final price (out the door) was. A few responded, we went back to those as asked if they could beat the lowest one and picked the best deal. Had my Credit Union already on board, so that wasn't even part of the discussion. I spent 20 minutes at the dealership buying my truck and most of that was just waiting.

    Good luck!

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
Actually , I was not being sarcastic at all -- I figured that you could get a better understanding of the "system" by researching it yourself, rather than me trying to explain all the features of the TSS. After, all I do not own a vehicle with the TSS on it , but we do own a Subaru with "Eyesight" ( a very similar system).

Also as opposed to many around here, we love the Safety systems, as the Subaru version has already once saved my wife from a collision from a erratic driver ahead of her.

My apologies for overreacting, appreciate the info, it followed the “cheap comment” and I was looking at gremlins that didn’t exist. Actually I went for the 2018 largely for this and the leather. I tend to get sleepy at the wheel and lane departure is desirable for example.

If you can get a VIN number (that's redundant) from a 2018 and run it by your insurance agent -- I would be willing to bet your rates will go down, or at least stay the same for a 18 vs. a 17 . Ours went down slightly when we got the Subaru --and we were getting a 8 YO newer vehicle.

I hear you but even if it weren’t the safety, I really dig leather - with a dog, cloth doesn’t cut it and I would spend to reupholster in a few years.

As stated above you might be surprised how little difference there is in price from 17 with like 10k compared to a brand new 18.

I was in your exact situation OP and after doing more research and pricing it all out the biggest deciding factor for me to go brand new was the interest rates on the loans. New car Lonwas significantly lower than a used car loan (3.5% vs 7.99%).

Just had my 17 TRD OR 4x4 w/ tow package appraised for $30,000 by a dealer in SC. I have 27,500 miles on it. I'm sure they'd kick up the price by a few grand.

I'd buy new, unless you are really trying to save as much as you can. Around where i live though I've seen lightly used ones cost more than new.
