Even the Toyota dealers get it wrong. Last month I went to look at a low mileage '16 Sport that a dealer had listed, it was actually an OR. Beautiful truck, but I wanted the hood scoop!

He just said 25.7k out the door. Its great deal for a 4x4 OR even with a few miles. You gonna say he should have just gotten a SR base 5 speed 4 cyl with no rear seat for the same price new? Good job OP dealer messed up.

I've seen a few (2-3) examples of that happening in my area too. I believe it's because the VIN shows SR5 for Off-Road trims.

An actual Toyota dealer knows based on build data but it's possible a Honda dealer wouldn't have the same information. It depends on how much of the VIN they can interpret. IOW, Toyota knows exactly how a truck rolled off the line based on the full 17 digits, the final 6 being a serial number. But the first 11 are general information that don't necessarily tell you exact configurations.

With my truck some VIN checkers (even some on Toyota dealer websites) list it as a "base" but it was built as and is definitely a TRD OR. That's because in 2008 apparently the general information only distinguished between base, prerunner or x-runner.

I missed the part where he said he bought it. At 25K OTD that's good. 27 + tax and fees no bueno

A lot of taco owners can't even articulate which tacoma they have, much less a honda dealership. When I was shopping for mine it made it a lot harder to narrow my search results because a majority of used tacomas are listed incorrectly. I would narrow it to TRD OR 4x4 and every third posting was an sr5, sport, or limited.

That's exactly why I posted this here. I thought some folks here would know more than me on the 3rd gens, my last Taco was a 2010 Pre Runner. I'm happy with the deal I got and will start reading this site to see what mods will fit with what I want to use it for.

Anyway, thanks for the info and help TW, you folks come through almost all the time!

    :D
