What was your primary motivator for lifting your taco?

Exactly what the title asks... What was the main reason you lifted your taco?

I'm curious to hear why you lifted your taco. I don't plan on lifting my OR taco. It's more than capable for the off-road activities I will be doing. However, after spending time on this forum and seeing so many cool ass lifted tacos, I can't help to feel the slight urge to lift it. I certainly won't until I need new suspension. If I do, it will be purely for looks. Again, just curious to see how many do it for aesthetics vs. off-road requirement.

There is no wrong answer by the way.

    Nice picture man,

I am lifting mine because it looks pretty cool. DCLB's need a little height added to em

Not get stuck as much when I wheel...and because they look killer when they're lifted.

    Later.

My configuration (DCSB) with a fiberglass topper was pretty ass-low and nose-high. Every other driver hated my headlights. And when I had my hitch-mounted bike rack, it was a lot worse.

I started looking at a leveling kit, but got talked out of that by wheeling friends and this forum. So, with 50k miles, I thought maybe some fresh suspension would be nice. Toytec/Bilstein 5100 lift and AAL hoping for 1”-2” practical for the woods and fields.
Nope. Too high, wheels look small and now I need to replace bushings. Should have left well enough alone and just adjusted my headlights.

How about for better ride quality? That and fitting bigger tires for most.

Increasing the rear spring capacity for towing (AALs) and a bit of height without decreasing ride quality (5100’s).

Nice picture! I hope someday I can go to Iceland.

Mine came lifted (bought it used). Not very much but like a couple inches and I'm really happy with that. It's given me enough clearance off road I'm not super worried about hitting something. I don't know what qualifies as "serious" off roading, but that's why I wanted a Tacoma with a short bed. Just a little bit shorter wheel base to go off road around here where a full sized truck has more troubles

In order to support an ARB bumper and better accommodate heavy loads in the bed. And to run larger tires. I work in the bush a lot as a geologist and the stock configuration doesnt work for me at all. Plus I get to write off all the truck expenses..

Sorry about that not working out, but this is my 3rd Toyota truck since 1997, all of which I sold after more than 250k miles each and with which I’ve used AAL’s and much of my mileage was off-road for work (I was a field biologist for 20+ years until lately), so I’m pretty sure they’ve been good for me. Perhaps there were other issues on your shocks and leafs, how they were installed, or with the conditions of your leafs or coils. I’m sure you’re looking at some other issue with your setup because I put a single Dakar AAL and lifted the front just over an inch with 5100’s on my 2017 and it rides great on washboard roads, on rough rocks and dips, and on freeways, loaded or not.

I agree. Had aal on my 2010 Tacoma and on my old 4runner with 200k on the clock. They both rode fine....now blocks are a different story. Blocks definitely suck.

All I wanted was to put my wheels on.
My ray10's sat in my garage for more than a year.
I hate lifting, I'm going to lose that much center of gravity, buy more expensive shocks, uca's, labor & down time; ended up buying 285's, which needed CMC, and lift.

Yup, blocks and other spacers that don’t physically strengthen the rear springs also have a bad reputation for towing, as they can increase axle wrap under high torque situations. And then there’s...

That’s good, they work and are definitely lower cost than the other options for you. :)
in my case, I was going for increased weight capacity (less sag under loads) as well as height.

I hope you did your own, there are dealers out there doing it to their showroom models for gold.

I lifted mine for a better forest service road experience, light trail work, and the Red Clay Rally coming up in June.

It also sat rear low with my dirt bike in the back.
