I think it depends on how much you off road. I've seen guys run them without UCA but they don't offroad so no articulation.

Yup, that's it. The bridge there is where it crosses over Horse Pasture River and where the nice camp sites are. After you cross that bridge it's a lot more fun. The park service maintains Chestnut Mountain Road. They do not maintain Auger Hole Tr or the road past the bridge and it does get pretty rough.

    Damn...that hurts the wallet.

This trip will be my first off-road experience. She’s 98% a road runner truck.

What’s the advantage to 255 over 285? Better MPG? Less noise?

CMC chop isn't that expensive. You can buy the plates from alot of places. I want to say SOS has them. The cutting part isn't that bad from what I've read. Weld them up and rattle can them.

    255 over 285.
Well, yea..most likely a tad bit better gas mileage being thinner.
Road noise? Idk. My 285 BFG were surprisingly quiet. and even more surprising is how quiet these Cooper mud terrains are.

I went to order the 255's but he said it would be a few days. I'm impatient, so Just ordered the 285's instead. Matter of fact....I think I wanted the STT max instead of the STT pro mud terrains but I'll try these and see how I like them.
My trucks pretty much an around town driver and I use the car for trips nowadays.

So to fit 285s I would need a lift, aftermarket UCAs and a CMC?

No. You might just be fine with a lift only.
You "might" need uca's to get the alignment correct.
You "might" need a CMC if you wheel alot and are flexing and rubbing.

For street and mild trail stuff, you might just need a lift.
