So I'm looking at getting an intake for my truck and my question is what brands should I be looking at and would it be wise to get my engine tuned after installing one? Any feedback would be great. Thanks

only one id get would be the TRD intake, which is basically the same thing as your stock intake has a little bigger air intake area. i think you can even buy that one piece that sucks in air separately so you could have the exact same thing at a fraction of the cost.

some guy posted about his ARE intake sucking in dust or some shit and basically totaling his truck at 10k miles, Toyota said you shouldn't of put that on, and ARE said its not our fault so now hes out a truck.

I was really looking into getting one for a while and decided against it because it literally does nothing except change the noise a little bit and sometimes not for the better...

It's your truck though do what you want!

    welcome to the show.

no straightforward answers on this one. lots of opinions instead.

but i have the TRD intake because it gives me a bit more sound to help guide my shifting, so I'd buy it again. not a power thing though.

re: tuning... you have lots of browsing to do about this. OV tune threads... look for those.

I used to be a fan of intakes/ exhausts on trucks back when they used to give an improvement to performance/ mileage. On this truck, I don't believe you get either.

My suggestion is stay OEM and put that $ into something else.... You will only gain noise from a CAI.... (possibly a messed up MAF sensor if you used an oiled filter with it..!!)...

My 2 cents...= spend the $ on yer wife/GF and you'll get better return for the $... hehe ;);););)
