I recently bought a TRD Sport and it came with a package that included dealer installed 3M tint on the front windows. Does anyone know what tint % dealers typically install on new vehicle packages like this? Do they install whatever the legal limit is for the state you're in? My state's limit is 35% - the tint on the front windows looks pretty subtle so wasn't sure if its 35% or something lighter. I know I could take it to a tint shop to confirm but just curious if anyone knows off the top of their heads. Thanks!

Generally dealers will install the state legal limit or lighter. Pics would definitely help. Are the fronts lighter than the back?

Here are some photos. Front windows are definitely lighter than the back. I don't want to go darker than the legal limit so if these are already 35% than I'll just stand pat. Just wasn't sure.

I had 35% installed on my front windows and it more or less matches the rears pretty well. Your front windows appear to be significantly lighter than the rear, so I think you are safe imo.

Thanks. While I think matching the front and back tint would look great, that would require me to tint the fronts below the legal limit which I don't want to do. On certain days the fronts look decently dark but on other days it barely looks tinted at all. That had me thinking that maybe my fronts aren't 35% but after looking at some photos of 35% on other threads I'm starting to think I may already be there.

You definitely have 35% on the front. I’m not sure how LE is around your area but in my area they don’t ever really mess around with it too much unless you’re being an asshole driver and they’ll slap the book at you. I had 15% all around on my old Tacoma for years and never had an issue.

I just had mine tinted on Monday. The factory tint in the rear doors and back window is 20%. Legal in my state is 35% but who gives a shit, I wanted it to match the rest of the truck so I had them do 20% on the fronts, matches perfectly. So if I had to compare the rear doors to the fronts on your truck, the fronts look to be 35% to me. If you're that worried about it you can stop at a tint shop and have them tell you what % you have on there, most likely just by looking but they do have a gauge they can hang on the glass too.

I agree matching tint all around would look the best. If the truck had come with no tint in the front windows I would have considered doing 20% or something like that, but since it already came with 35% from the dealer I'm reluctant to have it ripped out just to get a few shades darker. Honestly I didn't even notice they had tinted the windows until I realized it the next day (I picked it up at night). I didn't even know dealers offered tint like that on new vehicles. I'm fine with it, one less thing to do!

Good looking truck. I do like that blue. I would say that those are 35%. Looks good. I went 20% on my fronts, and on certain occasions they are a pain to see out of; especially at night. If I were to do it over again, I would go 35% on the fronts as well.

I'm not sold on that being 35%. It looks lighter to me. I'm going to venture out and say it's 50%.
My pics below are 35% Llumar Pinnacle ceramic.

Interesting. I agree your ceramic 35% looks much darker than mine. Does ceramic tint tend to be darker than 3M tint? (that's what my dealer used) And to add even more confusion to this, I just heard back from the dealer where I bought the truck and they say its 30% tint that they installed.

That's really tough to say about the darkness of one vs. the other, but this is the 3rd vehicle that I've put 35% Llumar Pinnacle on in 10 months.

Looks great on all 3 of those vehicles! That definitely looks darker than other examples of 35% I've seen on the forum. I'm in NC and have read about people getting hassled during inspections for being darker than the legal limit. Limit here is 35% but they'll give you leeway down to 32%. I figure I'm probably close enough and shouldn't bother making it any darker.

A couple of thing s to consider. All these photos that we see on here are not taken with the same phone, same lighting conditions, or even the angle. IMO, the color of the vehicle will also make a difference on how the tint will appear. I have a white Tacoma, and in this pic, it looks like mine are about 5%, but it is factory in the rear and 20% in front.

Really good point. Honestly every time I look at my truck the tint seems to look different depending on the angle and time of day. I'd definitely prefer the darker look but not sure it's worth the risk where I live. One of these days I'll stop by a tint shop to have them measure the front windows just get a final answer on this. I appreciate all the responses, the feedback has really helped me get a better handle on this.

That will be the best way to know what the actual % of tint is that you have.
