@gulzeb mentioned that the Subaru tweeters that are all the rave do not work in trucks with the jbl upgrade package. Can anyone expand on this knowledge as to the issue? Thanks. I have a set and don’t want to bother the install if they aren’t going to work. Thanks

Disclaimer: I have no expertise here.

My understanding is the JBL system uses the canbus system to communicate.
Maybe google search it to learn more.
This exhausts my expertise on this matter.

Taken from another forum member, the connectors are different.

Subaru/Kicker tweeter on the left, JBL stock tweeter on the right.

If you don't care about the connectors, you can cut the connector off on the Subaru kicker tweeter and splice it to the factory tweeter positive/negative wires.

I think it’s easier to splice the factory wire into a 4 prong. Idk

Can you share then link to those 4 prong oem Tacoma connectors?
I’m thinking of upgrading the JBL tweeters on my 2016.

Is the Subaru tweeter an upgrade when compared to the JBL tweeters?

Not sure, i was just reading that thread thinking it was upgrade to JBL tweeter but turned out OP upgraded his non-JBL tweeter.

Does this Subaru tweeter have an advantage over other tweeters?

I think the non-JBL option is just so bad, that the stock Subaru tweeter is better. And it appears to be a cheap, noticeable upgrade. I am curious, what would be considered an upgrade over the JBL option, because that is what I have.

Sorry, I meant what is the advantage the subaru tweeter has over the other tweeters on the market (kicker, RF, etc) not the stock tweeters.

It is plug and play. The Subaru (Kicker) tweeter has same connector as stock Toyota non JBL tweeter. No wires to cut or splice.

If the JBL tweeters are like the sub, there will be a noticeable difference in aftermarket products. I put a Pioneer in place of the JBL, and just the difference in build quality alone was enough to make it a worthwhile project.

To put it bluntly, the JBL woofer is a freaking joke.

Well it obviously sounds way better than stock, the price is reasonable, and it is plug and play. Lots of Tacoma owners are happy with the Subaru/Kicker tweeter upgrade. It is a simple no hassle 15 minute upgrade requiring minimal technical skills.

Yes, I understand it will be better than stock. I had meant, why choose this particular subaru tweeter over all the other aftermarket tweeters available?

What are the specs for the tweeter?

For example, the kicker component system 43CSS694 comes with tweeters AND 6x9's (with crossovers) for almost the same price as the subaru tweeter alone. I am just trying to figure out why they are all the rave as OP put it. Seems like a regular tweeter to me, just a bit more expensive.

Where is it located? How much did the Pioneer run? I don't know much about audio so I am not too familiar with JBL vs other brands

Here is a thread with 117 pages, on economical 16-18 Tacoma speaker upgrade using the Subaru tweeters, and mostly Kicker door speakers. Not sure anyone has found the specs for the Subaru tweeters, but there are a lot of owners who have made this sound upgrade for not much money. I think the intent/motivation was a big sound upgrade for not much money.
