Without the specific specs out on the Ford, we don't know if the Ranger grew like the Tacoma's and the GMC Twins. I can only hope that Ford kept the Ranger small. As I am also hoping the new Nissan Frontier will maintain its dimensions. One of the reason I purchased a 16 Frontier was for its smaller size. Both Ford and Nissan will have 6+ years to work out the "bugs" in the new design before I am ready to purchase.

As far as "domestic brands", the Nissan is made in the USA. imo, the markets are way to global in nature to get hung up with a "domestic" brand. One only has to look at were it is being built or where parts come from.

Also it hurts GM & Ford IMO that they left the market and it's not easy to regain market share. You have to convince people to give up their Toyota or Nissan. Back in the heyday of compact trucks Toyota didn't own it, Rangers and Dakotas often sold in similar numbers. My guess it's mostly now that they want a product to offer existing owners to prevent them from getting a Toyota. Ford seems to be punting like GM, not really anything interesting. A diesel or/and a stick shift in a mid level trim package, now that would get me off the dime.

I like the lower half of the front end. Bumper is cool with the fogs. I do like that the bumpers are steel. wish the Tacoma did that.
dont like the small grill tho

People complaining about the Tacoma's 6 speed transmission hunting for gears are sure to enjoy the 10 speed transmission in the ranger (sarcasm). I can't imagine how often a 10 speed would be changing gears.

Their swappin' out transmissions on the wife's Focus so much it should have wing nuts. Now they want me to buy into a 10 speed nightmare? I was hoping for a diesel at least. No diesel/No sale! The looks are no screamin' hell either!

I like it. We have a 2017 Ford Escape with the 2.0 L Ecoboost with no issues. Same with my dads 2.7 L Ecoboost with 230k on it. Nice that Ford is giving the class leading gas engine as a standard feature.

I’m also not surprised Toyota fans are out trashing its reliability before it even hits the street or without mentioning the 3rd Gen issues. This truck wasn’t designed for buyers who will only buy imports/Toyota trucks. It was designed for buyers who compare the F150 to the Tacoma but buy Tacoma because the F150 is too big. Take a look through the forum. That’s a weekly topic.

If it’s the 10 speed from the F150 that’s badass and will be nicely overbuilt for this truck. The 10 speed in the F150 is actually a 7 speed with 3 different overdrive gears.

I would love a reg cab, long bed Toyota with a 5 speed. Maybe Ford will bring some really stripped down models out so Toyota will too, so they can compete on price.

For the record, the "Tacoma fans" have trashed the 3rd generation way more than the ranger.

Depends on the guy. I’ve been here since the first true third gen posts. There are some truly die hard brand fans on here, which is totally fine. I like and avoid certain brands of just about everything based on past experience. Too each their own. I’m just not a fan of brand bashing per se.

It messed me up. I had a 2nd gen and took a good look at the 3rd before buying. I understand in a perfect world there is always something that can be improved. This 3rd gen has been kickass for me. Maybe not everyone can say the same.

I should really just blame smitty lol

As for the car engine specs if the 2GR had 310 HP, and more importantly 350 ftlbs of torque, I doubt it would of had the same complaints and comments.
