Anyone using a Viair 400P Portable 12 volt compressor to air tires up tires

What are the likes and dislikes on using a Viair 400P Portable 12 volt air compressor to air up tires after coming off the beach or after off roading from 20 lbs. to 32 lbs.?

I am tire of using State Park compressors and hoses that have defective valve chucks.

I don’t like the screw on chuck, I’m going to adapt it to a conventional quick release hose and chuck
I wired a heavy duty electric plug to my front bumper so I don’t have to open the hood and connect to the battery

 

It is amazing, easy to use, and fast. The screw-on chuck takes a few seconds longer, but is much more efficient than a clamp-on chuck.

 

I had one and it worked well enough... figure a couple minutes a tire with the stock-ish tire size. 3-4 minutes to air up 33's from low teen pressures when doing any serious rock work. The problem with them is the duty cycle... go out with a group and you usually end up airing up everyones tires and the compressor gets HOT and exceeds the duty cycle quickly... Doesn't take long to kill a compressor that way.

I ended up finding a GREAT deal on one of these 12V Puma compressors last year and have been using it exclusively on my wheeling trips. It airs up twice as fast as even the biggest Viairs--it fills a 265/75s from 15 to 35 in about 45 seconds. The air tank also means you can use it to run air tools in short bursts or use it to knock the dust off all your gear after a long day in the dirt. The 100% duty cycle also means you can run it constantly without fear of burning it up. The only downfall of it is that it's a somewhat on the large/heavy side but it's not completely unwieldy, especially considering how well it works. I think eventually I will end up tearing mine apart and stashing the tank and compressor motor somewhere under the hood or frame and just add a quick disconnect somewhere.

Thanks for the info. The Viair 400P I am looking at has a 33% duty cycle, will run for 20 minutes, and had a "snap-on" air chuck. Maybe a newer model? Found a new one on internet for $143.99 out of Nebraska. Think I am going to pull the trigger.

 

I haven't had mine long, but it has worked great the few times I have used it. I'm trying to figure out a quick connect like dcwn.45 did. But I want to also keep the battery clamps in case I need to use it on another vehicle.

Edit: I got the 450p not the 400p. It cost more but has 100% duty cycle.

I don’t have a pic but it is a heavy duty 2 wire plug for a trolling motor that I found at Fleet Farm
I ran it from the battery to my front bumper by the winch and cut off the battery clips and put the other half on the compressor side so I can plug it in easily without opening the hood

 

sorry, a little off topic. I just purchased one of these and the previous owner had it custom wired. Would you mind sending me a pic of how the wires are oriented under the control box cover?
