Maybe they are planning on coming back with tools and didn't want to damage it. Keep an eye out.

I did both washers and the single hose clamp. Skate board speed washers, three per bolt compensated for the thickness of my larger washer. I found a 12mm stainless washer was a very close fit, wrenched with blue thread lock. @chris4x4, thanks for starting this, these are excellent theft deterrents.

Just did the washer and hose clamp mod today, haven't heard of anyone near me having theirs stolen...yet...but now I have less to worry about. Once it warms up I might paint the clamp to prevent some rust but worst case I just do it again as needed.

I have a 2018 and trying to do the hose clamp mod. Why does my hinge look different than everyone else’s?

The pictures I’ve seen have a smooth cylinder for the clamp to go around it. Mine seems to not look the same?

Interested in seeing 2016 and 17 since most solutions reference only up to 2015 version. Have a 2018 myself.

Pricier than original fix but I guess much cheaper than a new gate.

    Choices choices.....:annoyed:

Just picked up my first Tacoma (2017) last night and just saw this thread. Just went out to check my tailgate and make sure it was locked (it wasn't). I'll have to do one of these for the times I forget to manually lock it. Nice thread to save everyone some pain and $$. Thanks!

I'll have to check but it seems to me that mine can't be opened with the alarm actuated, and it would be a good idea to have a none apparent mark that would be unique to you, as a way of Identifying it should you see it again

Not sure if this has been covered but be sure to put down some rubber before the hose clamp, not doing so will chip the paint underneath and cause rust.

I checked and my tailgate is locked when the alarm is activated, so I can fore go the clamp idea.

The only thing not theft proof is the gas cap, so it's next on my list to do is to get a locking cap.

Look at the reviews for locking caps on Amazon. They all have terrible reviews for some reason. If you find one you like please link it!

I will rem this trick. Too bad Toyota doesn't do what Nissan does. You have to remove 4 bolts to remove the cables. Duh...easier fix
But yet I am still trying to get Harley to do my easy fix on the Dynas kickstand. Just a quick buzz with grinder and you have that fix.
