    So I've searched this site far and wide for someone with a similar setup but havent found one and I feel like I'm running into brick walls everywhere I turn. Electrical isn't my strong suit, so please bare with me...

    I have some LED light strips that i'd like to put around my cab in footwells, cupholder area, glove box, etc and now theyre placed where they want to be, I've daisy chained them together to one main feed that are a single red and black feed from the LEDs heading to my switch location. Are there any wiring diagrams for this? I seem to get the main diagrams I've found on this site confused since most of them dont have just a red and black wire to tie into the switch. Since these are such low voltage do i even need a relay? I see almost everyone running one, but also a couple members mentioning that I wouldnt need one for such low voltage.

    I guess I'm just confused with the 4 wires coming from the switch (green, red 1, red 1, black)
    From what I've gathered, green ties into the add a fuse, does the black get tied together to the black from the LEDs and then grounded to the chassis?

    any help is greatly appreciated. thanks yall

    I just quickly looked, but;

    Green connects to your +12 source
    Red 1 is the switched +12 that goes to your lights that is on or off when you push the switch.
    Red 2 connects to the dash lighting system so when you turn on your headlights the switch itself illuminates (not sure on the best way to tap in for that).
    Black is ground. It needs to go to ground to allow the switch itself to illuminate, and you might as well ground the lights with it.

    Just to clarify, you state the LED's are low voltage. They need to be rated for +12 volts if you are tapping directly into the electrical system. If you are using strips rated for less than 12 volts, you will need to step down the voltage. I know it's a nit pick, but I want to clarify you are using 12v rated LED's.

    Does your switch say how many amps it's rated for? You can check that against your lights. I wouldn't think a relay would be required, but with no product info I can't say for sure.

    Use a relay. Ch4x4 push switches are 3 amp rated. Do not connect switch ground to light ground then to body ground. Doing that could give feedback through the wire and cause things to not be happy. You can attach them to the same grounding point, just not wired together then to ground.

    thanks so much @windsor and @THE_END I think I'm finally getting the hang of it.

    So if I do go with a relay, does that change the whole wiring scheme? Am i screwing myself if i dont do a relay? I'm looking at diagrams with a relay compared to one without and they seem to be totally different. And btw, these LEDs are rated for 12V.

    Also, for the Red 2 wire, to illuminate my switch, would I tap into the fuse panel with an add a fuse on a fuse that is on when the car is on? I guess I have more research to do.

    This is a diagram I found that seems pretty close to what I'm looking at.

    Green wire should go to a fuse that has power at all times. Black to a ground under the dash (I use the fuse panel mounting stud). Red 1 goes to 85 on the relay. Red 2, can goes to a wire that gets power from the lighting circuit (I found that wire on one of the unused plugs hooked to a switch blank).
