It’s just design for those brakes and cars.

The 4Runner pads from the factory are horrific. Typically have to change all four corners around 30k. So Toyota doesn’t make incredible pads.

Its all overall design. The goal isn’t always to make a product last as long as possible. For example Jeep may recommend more frequent changes and give less lofe in OEM brake pads because if you waited more than 30k to replaced them they would be horribly corroded on haha.

I replaced m original front pads at 70K miles as well.

Rears had plenty left...didn't replace them. I'm now at 95K miles.

The longest I drove my tacoma between breaks was about 1300 miles. I got tired and I got a hotel room. I'm sure the Tacoma didn't need a break.

My old Jeep had the brakes break while parked on the 5th floor of a parking garage. The tow truck driver got it down with no brakes or breaks, still amazed he made it. I guess he used engine braking without breaking anything.

I did my front pads and rotors this year. First time since new at 93k miles. The rear pads are still good.
My front pads and rotors were almost done. I also tow my boat with the truck.

He may have taken a break, I really don’t know, but definitely no brakes.

I put about 185,000 miles on my factory original brakes before I changed the front discs. They had a little pad left, but it was time to change them. Rear drums had about 70% left. But I drive 95% highway miles about 100 miles a day, and don't do a lot of off-roading these days.

Front disc pads last me 30-40 thousand miles.
I replaced the rear drum shoes for the first time at 103,000 miles. That was mainly because the retainer block in the rear brake (driver's side) broke off so rebuilt both sides after Jason ('Speed Freek') welded the retainer back onto the wheel plate.
