I just did something similar but instead of the vent ring as the base, I used an old base from ProClip USA that I still had laying around. I had to do some minor fabing to make it work, but it now sits exactly where yours does at the top of the vent.

Also, I'm using an X-grip instead of the magnet because I was not sure if the metal plate inside the phone case would mess up my ability to use Samsung Pay, but I needed something that could easily hold different size phones.

Did you hide your USB cable behind the dash anywhere? If so, where did you route it through? Last night, I was just pondering where I should run mine.

For those of you who think it's silly to run a USB wire up to the phone like that, it's because I don't always want to have my phone plugged in but it's nice to have it easily available when I do. For those times I do need it, I usually NEED it and I don't want (or have) to waste the time trying digging out the cable from where ever my wife/kids last left it. lol

I'm not down to rip out my dash just yet, i just bought these clips which work great and never fall off and it makes it look fairly hidden away you can barley notice the cord back there. those clips also easily pop out if you need it!

Thanks for sharing this - my truck is a week old and I'm just now diving into how I'm going to solve this phone mounting issue. Thanks!

Nice! I debated doing the same thing. Except I didn't, just ordered the rest of the ram mount kit on Amazon for much less than the kit.

That's actually the first time I've seen it done like that on their website it tells you to turn that knob and tighten it down every time. I may of gotten it after seeing this video thought it was going to be a lot harder than that every time, on the bright side i saved 40$.

Hondos, no glue, no rubberbands, no parts from this and that and it stays where you put it the first time.
