Just got a husqvarna 450 rancher. Runs great so far, of course I'd expect that out of any new saw. Had a 576xp, but it's a lot of saw unless you're working with big stuff. Excited about this smaller one, my back should enjoy it, especially when sectioning wood. That's the majority of what I do anyways since most of my wood is already down.

The tension screw broke when I got it from my grandfather in law, does anyone know if I need to look up another part? I'm having trouble finding it so I was just gonna go to the hardware store and replace only the screw...

Good deal. Too much material taken away from the riders, aka rakers, can bog a motor down, and cause chatter in the cut. That’s a sweet jig.

I didnt realize the rakers needed filing as well, hopefully this will get me by before I go into a more expensive sharpening system. I dont do much cutting so if it keeps it good and sharp for the few times I use it I'll be happy!

The riders set correctly gives a smooth and fast cut. Dull chains are what kill chainsaw motors.

I use Stihl chaps - they are bright orange, like my saw. (It's what the dealer sold.)

Mine go over the pants - as opposed to the ones that are your pants.

Tuolumne was super fun this year. I was able to defend last year’s win yesterday. Two 1st’s, one 3rd, and a DNF. The dnf stung, but that’s racing!

Does anyone use a chipper shredder for yard cleanup? I am using an old Troybuilt chipper vacuum I got from a neighbor but I'm looking for something maybe newer, And more serviceable.

Any suggestions or what are you using?

Never loan your saw to anyone. Instead, offer to do it for them. They'll gladly accept. You can either do it, schedule it around your time, keep putting it off, whatever. In the end, your saw is still intact.

Before you buy a 2 in 1, make sure it has the correct round file for your saw chain. You can't go by the pitch alone, like the ads would have you believe. And you can't change the file size in it. The sharpener is drilled to accept only one size file, since they have to fit tight to work properly.
If you have a chain box, check the back. It will tell you the file size you need. Or you can find out on Stihl's website.
