Had my 2009 in the shop last week for warranty frame rust work. They gave me a 2018 TRD Sport as a loaner.

Biggest difference to me seemed to be in the suspension, definitely major improvements there. The build also seemed more solid, both in feel while driving and when shutting a door, for example. Felt like shutting the door of a bank safe as opposed to an old screen door on a house. OK, that's exaggerated on both ends, but the point is made :)

The power of the V6 seemed...adequate, nothing more.

Didn't have it long enough to ascertain fuel economy (which, in my 2009, is *horrible*).

Infotainment center was obviously a big step up from the tech level of my '09.

What do we think is coming in '19 or '20, any speculation?

They released the 18’s like a month ago. I doubt there will be any sort of data that will reliably transfer over to the 19. If I had to guess same body and an updated motor: trans combo but that’s just because everyone complains about power/ shifting. But who knows.

You could always get a some dynamat or sound deadner and put in the doors of your current truck, it will make the doors feel more solid. get an aftermarket newer touchscreen radio, replace your stock shocks with new Bilstein 5100s or something better.

It would save you about 30k
I'm not sure what will come out for 2019 or 2020

Expect a new Entune version, additional USB ports, and Alexa (Amazon’s assistant). Hopefully some tuning updates for the transmission, or at least a 4.10 for the autos. Not as likely though as it’s all about Cafe, especially as the deadline gets closer.

Motor will be the same 2GR for now, but may have updated intake/exhaust valve seats, similar to the laser clad valve seats in the new Camry. This change will allow for better air/fuel mixing and turbidity, increasing efficiency.

Akio Toyoda announced recently that by 2025-ish every Toyota/Lexus model will either be fully battery-electric, or at least have a hybrid-electric option. This includes the trucks. Tundra is likely to get a similar motor to the LS500 (twin turbo 2GR), but no word on Tacoma.

Body-wise... probably not much. I’d like to see the RX projectors as either standard or at least an option. The current headlights are beat by the Corolla’s...

Oh, and expect it to cost more.

2019 Avalon has confirmed Google/Apple carplay integration. 2019 Tacoma will hopefully have as well.
