Mine didn't do it this morning; like you said, it's been a warmer.
It's supposed to get back down into the teens in a couple days; so we'll see.

I was kind of worried the dealership would give me grief. Given the circumstances, I knew they wouldn't be able to replicate it.

 

I was also very happy with my dealership too! I had the previous TSB which fixed the clunk and cruise hold 4th gear indefinitely. I told the service rep that the first 3 items listed were already fixed but the 4th I was having issues. They took it back and I was out the door in 45 minutes no other questions asked! Great service. Seemed to be holding gears better on my drive today but I had some tail wind which usually makes the truck feel better so we will see in the morning when I drive into that wind to get home.

 

Had this completed this morning. It took about 45 minutes or so. I can tell a difference and the tech told me to give things a few weeks to adjust to my driving style. So far I'm happy.

 

I had rev 1 done 13 months ago. Has not flared since. The original TSB took care of everything else which was primarily hesitation going from P-D D-R R-D P-R.

 

Going to get my 2017 SR5 flashed tomorrow. ~200kms on it so far and I have the sluggish shifting (which is apparently the transmission learning my driving habits...) but also the jerk when going from P to D when cold and the 3-4 flare. Called my dealer and they told me the update would fix everything. We'll see.

 

It was well below freezing today and I had no flare.

 

Got back from the dealer. They applied TSB 4419 (maybe the Canadian bulletin#? idk) and driving around felt much better than before. Like leagues better. The shifts were responsive and smooth, finally feels like there's a V6 under the hood.

Only gripe is later on when I turned off the truck and got back in the shift from park to drive still gave a noticeable jerk (snow underneath the truck?) on the first shift but went away after repeated shifts.

Park to reverse still has a noticeable thud but seems normal-ish.

Overall? Better, definitely better.

 

Getting this done now. The service advisor I spoke with said if you complain about the transmission, this is their go to. I hope it makes a difference.

 

could this issue be something different from the transmission?....
While coasting slow through a stop sign or not coming to a complete stop, when I very gently put my foot back on the gas there is a delay then a sudden thud/jolt into 2 gear. (but not in sport mode)
ive had both previous updates done that took care of everything but this. Ive also driven 4 new vehicles lately and every one of them shifted smoothly through these harsh points.

I bought my 2017 4WD SR5 access in Sept. of 2016, and at 485 miles I took it into the dealer because of the erratic upshifting/downshifting and to have the trans oil level check. They performed the T-SB-0077-16 update and added trans fluid to the trans, which was low. This improved the operation of the trans a lot and pretty much got rid of the erratic shifting.

Then when I took it in for the 5k service I happened to ask the service rep if there was a newer update for the trans, and was told that there was. So they did the T-SB-0077-16 REV 1, which further improved the operation of the trans. So now, 7,500 miles after I had the REV-1 performed the trans is still shifting flawlessly and I'm totally happy with the truck and the trans overall, and I don't use the sport shift at all anymore, and occasionally I use the ECT when passing a vehicle going up a steep grade, otherwise, I just use Drive.

Do the 18s have this loaded in or is this something I should ask about when I pick up my truck?

 

I had the P-R issue and sluggish performance. Rev1 fixed it. then it seemed the sluggishness slowly came back. But after 12K it got more responsive. I still use S4/5 in traffic but it will downshift better on throttle pressure now. I still get the hard downshift first couple stops when its cold.

 

Just bought a used '17 DCOR with 16k miles on it. I have an appointment Monday the 19th at my local Toyota dealer to have the TSB updated on my truck. Can't wait till I get this done. I am aware of the drastic changes it makes to the driving feel, but are you folks getting any better mileage after this is done? I'm sure hoping...

 

I didn't seem to have much change in gas mileage. Unfortunately cruise control is still wacky after the update too.

 

Everyday I come home from work and hope there is some new information about a Rev 2 that I occasionally hear rumors about. Something that is a permanent fix we can all live with but everyday I'm disappointed by Toyota.

And before people start saying "Dude, mine's great you must be too picky or it's a truck!" everybody knows these gear hunting issues are widespread with this 3.5L engine and double overdrive 6 speed transmission.

Had mine taken care of today at Lia Toyota in Colonie, NY. Man, what a difference!! Had them address a speaker cover rattle too but this is the 2nd time they “fixed it” without making the noise go away. I’m happy to be driving my Taco again since the update.

 

I wanted to hop into this thread and ask a question. For those of you who had the shift flare when the truck was cold, has this update resolved your problems?

I have been dealing with it since I purchased the truck. Same story as everyone else with no real resolution. I've kept the truck only because the dealership bought me an extended warranty to help smooth over my dissatisfaction with the many issues my truck has had. I guess I always hoped Toyota might be able to pull through with a fix or maybe I'd get lucky and my transmission would just give up the ghost under warranty.

Fast forward a few years and my fiance has been diagnosed with lung cancer. No health insurance. Now we're sitting on some very significant medical debt and getting out from under this truck would certainly help right now. Consequently, I put together a plan to sell my fiance's vehicle, take that cash to a dealership and trade my Tacoma in on maybe a used F150 2wd or something significantly cheaper. Dave Ramsey would have told me to sell everything and start driving a clunker immediately. Before I try to trade the truck in, I wanted to have them reset the computer, as that at least makes the truck behave well enough temporarily. So I called the dealership and asked them to reset it. The service manager insisted he wouldn't reset it until he could duplicate the symptom. Knowing the rabbit hole he was trying to take me down, I told him that I would just forego warranty service and pay him the labor in cash to reset the thing so I could go trade it in and be done with it. I want to be out of debt. I don't want to be jumping through hoops to get my car fixed. I'm not angry, I'm just a little overwhelmed.

Service manager hears me, decides to go talk to his lead tech, who pulls my records and reviews everything that's been done so far. He gets on the phone and says he noticed I'm missing the latest update, and he wants to recheck my transmission fluid. Talks me into leaving the truck with them anyway. They called me 2 days later saying that they've duplicated the symptoms, applied the new update, and (in spite of my last dealership supposedly adding nearly 2qts of fluid 2 years ago), they found my transmission was still .3 qts low, so they topped it off yet again.

So here I am. It's been 3 days since I got the truck back, and I haven't had the shift flare yet. If I were a gambling man I'd bet it will be back when the transmission controller starts to "learn". I do love my truck, for all its flaws, more than any other vehicle I've ever owned. If I knew it were fixed, I would consider selling the second vehicle, putting that cash on the truck, then refinancing that amount. Because the dealership seemed confident my shift flare would be permanently resolved after this update, I figured I needed to stop in here and see if anyone else has had theirs come back yet.

 

No shift flares since I got the first update about 2 years ago....But still crappy up-downshifting as always, even after Rev. 1 last year...

Thanks man. Yeah I had the latest updates as of 1.5 years ago, so I'm guessing this Rev1 must be the latest one that I was missing. Truth is I'm not even sure.

I need to clarify that my fiance is in remission *knock on wood* as of 2 weeks ago. Should have put that in my original post. We've got that going for us. Just trying to build a strategy to tackle the debt and still have a reliable vehicle.
