Considering either 3.0 or 3.5s for my build. Why do you ask?

I'd look that up very carefully. From what I understand 3.0's or higher would be of no benefit in a light truck like the taco, possibly no matter how much you load it up.

I'm curious as to what vehicle they WERE designed for in that case, seeing as my truck is likely going to clock in at just under 6k at race weight including fuel cell, full armor, roll cage, etc. I was mainly looking for the added adjustability of having several bypass tubes affecting different parts of the compression and rebound cycle. It's good to know I could probably get by with 4 tube 2.5s though rather than going up to the bigger and more expensive ones but I will definitely be consulting with multiple shops before dropping 3gs on shocks! Thanks for looking out

I'm useless as far as racing goes so I won't comment on that. If you're serious about the best setup, filthymotorsports seems to really know what they're doing and do a consult for I think $100 that should get you all the serious and specific information you need. That's what I'd do if I were serious about spending on the best suspension. Better good advice and the right setup than possibly waste money with more/other than what I need.

Yea I am considering this as well. If i am going to be building my truck I want to at least go 2.5's quad bypass but if I can do 3.0's that would be amazing. Trying to find all the info I can get before ordering parts.

I know of a few guys...I would NOT go with a 3.0 as you will have to valve most out of the shock in order for it to ride right and you will have to notch the frame to do so. A 2.5 will work perfectly for that kit...this info I got from Tim at DMZ who owns and designed the kit himself.

Everybody really just wants to throw money at bigger shocks, because that must mean better. It's not how big the shock is, it's how you tune it. A well-tuned 2.5 is plenty for most trucks, including a fullsize.

This is my buddy's truck, with just a 2.5 C/O (no bypasses) in front, doin work.

Filthy are not shock or suspension experts. They're shock salesmen. I don't know of anyone who has something they've set up that works well, but I do know a few of their customers who've had to go to another tuner to fix what Filthy screwed up.

So true, and same answer for King or Fox or whatever brand. A well tuned Fox is waaay better than a crappy tuned King and a well tuned King is better than a crappy tuned Fox

Good info and thanks for the video, that's definitely worth all the words we can all say on shock tuning because clearly that truck can handle doing work on the 2.5 COs you mentioned it has! So 3.0s may be overkill. I was mainly looking into bigger shocks because of the distance I'll be covering and dissipating heat, but I think I may look into adding a shock oil cooler now as part of the reservoir system rather than going with a larger diameter shock, I had neglected to consider the modifications necessary to FIT a larger body shock. Thanks man!

Does anyone generally stock King or do you always have to order and wait 3-4 weeks?

Depends what you get. Custom orders take time. Standard setup is normally in stock. I got my Kings in 3 days (including shipping) from ordering. Bought from headstrong.

Yeah, I wouldn't consider anyone the end-all expert. But I would listen and ask around. If anyone knows real quality outfits please do list, so we can all shop around both for advice and parts. I'm here to learn, filthy has the best explanations I've found around, and I've read a LOT. More and different is always welcome.

Thats the plan! I have been doing my own research into my setup for quite some time, and was going to call around to Accutune, Wheeler's, hopefully actually speak to someone in Fox engineering, etc to get second and third opinions and eventually piece everything together into my own personal theory of the best way to tackle the terrain my truck is going to see in its life.
