Ah.....there’s the problem. You have the JBL system.

Most of the speaker diys on the forum are aimed at the non JBL system. The non-JBL has a plug that fits right into the port on those kicker tweeters.

So you don’t like the JBL sound? Most folks usually claim it’s pretty decent. Not sure the kicker tweeters would be much improvement over what you already have.

its ok. Its good enough to not need to spend more - but wanting better sound, therein lies the question. I thought the subaru tweets would make the highs clearer.... oh well. thanks for your help

I am on board with you. I bought these and the connectors are wrong. I called kicked tech support today and they walked me through the process of making a new connector and figuiring out which two wires would be needed to complete the circuit. Anyway, If anyone has a connector solution let us know...otherwise I’ll be working on a connector to make the fit.

I have a stock 17 SR. Do you guys think the base model radio has enough power to run the kicker tweeters?

I just did this in my 2018. I know there are very few differences between the 3rd gen years, but I just wanted to let new 2018 owners that come across this thread know that the swap is still super easy! It took me about 5 minutes per side. They are pricey, but the sound is instantly noticeable. Before the swap, I couldn't hear vocals come from the front of the car and the midrange instruments in 1940s jazz music made a horrible buzz. Now the midrange and upper-end sound crisp and clear and I can actually tell the sound is coming from them.

I have these Subaru/Kicker tweeters sitting at home waiting to be installed in my 2018 this weekend, can't wait to hear the difference! I also bought the Kicker CS series speakers for the 4 doors that are mentioned in another thread. I just hope that my Entune Premium has enough power for these 6 new Kicker speakers. Not interested in installing an amp or a sub - don't need earth shaking bass, just looking for good clear music at all volume levels.

OpelGT - Did you have to take off the a-pillar trim panels to remove the dash tweeter grills?

It doesn’t look like you absolutely have to. The instruction I got from Crutchfield say no. I would anyway they literally pull off with one or two bolts and are easy to put back on. More room to work is always nice.

Glad to see I was not the only one confused by all of this audio upgrade talk. Sorry you purchased the subaru tweets only to find they didn't fit. We need to start a thread on how to upgrade the JBL system speakers. Do you have a pic of the speaker side of the JBL dash speaker. I am searching for replacements but have found no good ones yet. Hate to know I have to gut the whole system and put in my own.

I vaguely remember trying and not liking what I would have to do to make it fit (only one screw fitting or something) also remember returning the speaker wire kit and I did the Subaru tweeter kit.

Ok so is the subaru swap worth it? Or do you think 1in jl/pioneer tweets would be better

Subaru swap is the best IMO... direct fit and plug. Sound is worth the premium.

Anyone cut out the MALE tweeter plug from their non JBL tweeter in 2016+? I need a pair.

Could you provide info on the Kicker CS Serues door speakers that you mentioned?

I know nothing about car audio and have never changed speakers before. Are these swaps something that a novice could attempt or should I just head to my local car stereo store?
