Yea the Ranger definitely needs a sham-boi hood scoop to go toe to toe with that 1100lbs payload capacity of the Tacoma.

Would be hilarious to see the Tacoma on soccer duty... to see those leaf springs struggling with the load of a team's size 4 soccer balls.

See this all the time when someone actually decides to put anything substantial, but well within advertised payload in of those Ridgelines. While Tacoma definitely deserves shit for their weak leaf springs, especially 3 generations in a row now, I would not go bragging about the Honda either.

    Back to Ranger?

Let's be honest, we know the springs and payload in our Tacoma's is weak.

But Toyota is honest about it and tells us they didn't build it to haul. Understandable, but I'd like it to at least handle the weight of an expo rack and rtt....

I’ve had 1100 lbs in the bed of my 4cyl taco, yeah it squatted a little but it drove fine and I wouldn’t hesitate to put my full rating of ~1400 something pounds in it.

Curious what the specs on the ranger will be, probably less than the international version for legal reasons.

But as others have said, no MT means no interest for me.

It's interesting that these test videos we have seen of the Global ranger are doing work horse type things. Things are in the bed, being towed. It's climbing up steep inclines with heavy payloads. It's been driving through water crossings and left in a couple of feet of standing water for over 2 hours. Then it runs endurance drills with those payloads. You can tell the Ford Engineers care about the design.

All we ever got from Toyota about the 3rd gen was crawl control with a driver and empty bed, it jumping over some dunes in an empty bed. It going through some trails with just 1 driver and empty bed, and Mike Sweers yapping about vortex generators. It was more leisure type activities.

It makes me wonder if the 3rd gen can really hack it with those endurance tests. There's a reason the Hilux continued with the 4.0 gas engine instead of using the "new" 3.5. If someone got a CPS/CKP failure in the Australian outback, they are screwed.

It was posted a couple of pages back, but here it is again. I just hope the engine and transmission we get for the American version are just as good.

The front of the ranger is actually designed for water crossings, hence why it might look funny. It's rated for like 31 inches of water to cross and they left it in standing water for some time running, ran in water and all.

Thanks for the repost lol, pretty cool video. I liked the one part where the guy said “we don’t consider it a pass unless it can do it at max payload”.

Sadly I don’t think the US version will be quite this capable.
