Those twist lock legs are really awesome to work with. We use a tripod like that manfrotto that Danny linked at work. His holds 17lbs compared to the 15 you linked. The higher weight capacity the more stable they typically are. Helps with uneven ground, wind and vibration. Just something to consider.

I don't like the ball head design would be my only issue with it. I'd get annoyed with it. I think the pan head design would suit me better.

I feel you there. This is the tripod I use at my work. Holds up to 22lbs. I put a 20lb optic on it too. Ball head but you adjust the head with some tension and use another knob to pan. Only downside no pan handle. Crazy compact to put in a backpack.

Ya that's one thing I do like about the ball heads is the portability which is what I really want. How much of a pain is it to deal with the ball heads? I'd probably use it for video at some point and it would be ideal to have the pan handle on there for those uses though.

I like this style of ball head if I ever do a ball head. The knob does progressively squeeze the ball so you don't slam a heavy camera into your finger trying to adjust. I almost never need to manually pan. The head does separate from the tripod. You could buy another head with a pan handle. If you camera has a 1/4-20 hole out the side that would solve your panning issue.
