Is there anything that would cause cruise control to cancel itself?

I was driving cross country awhile back, potentially on an incline (don't remember) in Nevada going 75-ish. Cruise control just cancelled itself and I started slowing down. Freaked me out, thought I lost power. It was exact behavior as if I pulled it towards me to cancel but I am 100% sure I didn't, and I am 100% sure I didn't hit the brake or clutch pedal. I hit resume and it came back online.

It's possible that the engine wasn't able to maintain speed as I had it in 5th gear, maybe it cancels itself if it's full throttle for a certain amount of time without meeting speed setpoint? I can't remember if I was on an inline or not, this was 6 months ago I just forgot to post until I saw that other cruise control post today!

Mine can't be bothered with cruise control up inclines. Normal. I just put my foot on the gas up inclines. It's really bad with the trailer and a steep incline

Cruise control shouldnt cancel itself.... it has NO PROBLEM going WOT downshifting all the way to 3rd on its own if necessary to keep the set speed.

That stated, you can shift "manually" between 4th and D(5th) and cruise control will stay active, but if for some reason you feel the need its going to take 3rd gear to pull the hill at that speed and you downshift to 3rd manually by yourself, cruise will cancel.

Also you can push on the gas pedal all you want and cruise will stay active.

The only way cruise will cancel, is shifting into a gear lower than 4th, canceling it / turning cruise off on the stick, or touching the brakes.

The cruise control cancels itself if the current speed drops 10mph below the set speed.

There is a safety switch on the clutch pedal which will be disengaged with minimal pedal travel. You didn't pass thru a lot of standing water did you?

From the owners manual that nobody reads:

    Automatic cruise control cancelation

Cruise control will stop maintaining the vehicle speed in any of the following
    situations.

●Actual vehicle speed falls more than approximately 10 mph (16 km/h)
below the preset vehicle speed. At this time, the memorized set speed is not retained.
●Actual vehicle speed is below approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).
    ●VSC is activated.

That being said it could be a loose brake switch that flickered and caused the cancelation. Or a clutch switch in the case of a manual transmission.

    Also from the manual:

Canceling and resuming the constant speed control Pulling the lever toward you cancels the constant speed control.

*The speed setting is also canceled when the brakes are applied or the clutch pedal (manual transmission only) is depressed.
